Atwood gas stove cover

Has anyone removed the metal cover over their Atwood gas stove?

Ours is the noisiest thing about going down the road in the coach. Have been thinking of removing it and building a wood cover to use as a "cutting board/counter space" . Or, just leaving it bare naked and exposed.

Or, has someone come up with a way of stopping the "clank clank" of metal on metal?

My old RV used to have the metal cover...I just put a pillow on top of it while traveling. Not sure if it stopped the rattled or muffled it but either way it solved my problem with the annoyance.

I removed mine after the first trip and found a cutting board the right size. My wife made a quilted top to put over the stove top and that actually works better than the cutting board. We only get out the board from behind the couch if we need the extra counter space and are not using the stove.

I use that rubberized drawer/shelf liner that keeps things from sliding around; cut out a couple of squares, fold them over to double thickness, and place one under the two from corners of the stove cover. Works for us; no more rattle from cover.

In my old RV we just put a towel under it to cushion the rattle. Just be careful to not interfere with the stove knobs that must remain off. I have a metal cover on my current RV that has rubber bumpers that prevent vibrations.

I hate rattles and squeaks! We use a micro fiber dish drying mat, which is like a thick towel, under the cover when we are on the road. Makes the rattle disappear!

Red face Cutting board

Amazon you can buy a cutting board that has rubber legs that fit on the grates on the stove it gives you more counter space and you can leave it there except when cooking of course
Good luck

RV Upgrades list 7 types of Suburban stove covers.

Plastisol

I don't know if our stove cover rattles. If it does, it joins the band of rattlers, jinglers, bangers, and knockers when on rough roads. Plastisol is a soft liquid plastic in a can (Lowes has it). Plastisol semi hardens and is used for dipping handles of tools to provide a softer and more comfortable grip. Plastisol could be used to cushion parts of the stover cover/grill top on the stove.

Here's the cheapest price that I could find.

Atwood/Suburban glass top for stove

The 2015-2017 Vegas/Axis units have the old-school slide-in Atwood/Suburban 3-burner cooktop with bi-fold metal cover.
The way in which Thor mounted the unit, it sits about 1" above the counter top. Thus, it's not flush like the 2018-2020 two-burner units.

Instead of purchasing the newer flush-mount stove top, plus a new solid surface counter...I've decided that my next mod will be to add a glass cover to create a flush counter surface.
The glass cover is under $100 on most websites. So not a very expensive mod.
However, there will be some counter top and cabinet work needed to widen the opening about 2" and lower the cook top about 2" as well.

Wish me luck. I'll post photos when complete

After I removed the noisy cover, DW quilted a beautiful colorful cover which sits on the grate and we have a wooden cutting board (sits behind the couch) that replaces it when we cook.

here's a photo of a finished install of the Suburban flush-mount cover
you can see that the entire unit is recessed into the counter, so some cabinetry work is required

Atwood Suburban flush mount cover: project complete

Here’s my completed kitchen mod...

*** Not shown is the bottom of the framed-in box. I used the same 1/8” sheathing material that was removed when box was lowered 2”

Very nice work surface. Must more usable than ours that sets up about one inch about the adjacent countertop.

Nice! In your first pic I see the outlet for the outside TV on our unit that was just lying on the floor instead of mounted to the wall LOL.

My solution was to replace the counter top completely and put in a new sink and new induction stove.

Yes, I saw your re-model which looks great
I wasn’t ready to add a real solid surface and 2 burner flush mount yet
So this was the most cost effective

By the way...the OEM surface for Vegas/Axis is actually Formica over pressboard.
