In all the the RVs we had over the years we have never had this happen - once the awning reached the length of its extension it would stop.
Is this common to this make of motorhome, or do we have a problem?
That's common for the brand of awnings installed on Thor RVs. Just have to watch it and stop/let go of the switch when fully extended.

I read and understand your concern. Ours on a 2016 Hurricane 35C is automatic as described in another reply. Push and release the button to extend and it stops automatically. I would suggest you extend the awning all the way out and look for a label the manufacturer puts on. At least this is where my CateFree of Colorado puts the label with the model and serial number. Call the manufacturer for help. If it's carefree I have found their customer service to be great. Good luck.

Sorry... My Outlaw worked exactly as yours does. You'll know when it's backwards, when pushing the button to "retract": actually extends the awning. (and extend is now retracting things... )
Bob, you crack me up.

Yes ours also keeps going. We have learned to watch it and stop when the end of tr@vel is re@ched an not over extended.

My 2014 Thor Palazzo awning does not stop when fully extended. I have to watch and stop it when the small end flap falls down. The motor speed is slow and so no problem to stop at the right time.

"waiting for the flap to drop..."
It either sounds like a New Years Eve party gone wrong; or Friday night at the Outhouse!

We have a newer version care free ofl Colorado, it is automatic and will stop when going out and with one push of the button it winds back in automatically. It does have a wind sensor. Our previous Care free of Colorado did not it was manual in every way. We have an Ace 29.3. Our awning is the traveler. Love the difference.

We haven't tried ours to see if it keeps going, it may over extend, then wind back up the wrong way, not too sure.

Rich&Cathy mention theirs has a wind sensor, makes me remember one we saw when trailer camping...

It was a big and nice class A, the problem was, they did not have a golf cart sensor! Oops!
We heard a crashing and ripping sound, as the cart had a roof that interfered, then we looked across the way to see it, OMG!
