Axis Spotted in Estes Park, Colorado.

We spent the Memorial Day Weekend in Estes Park Camp Ground, in Estes Park, Colorado. We met Pat and Kerry from Nashville. Tenn. They have the Axis below.

We live in Fort Collins, CO. and have the following Axis 24.1.

Hey Firehawk how was the Estes Park campground? We're headed that direction next week in our Vegas.

I had my Axis suspension beefed up with heavy duty stabilizers and that helps with the side winds. And I believe someone was asking about fuel economy! Well I believe its around 8 mpg for me. Wish it was better.

We really liked the camp ground especially since we had the M20, really had some nice space to those sites. Camp host were very helpful with some of the requests we had, we extended two extra nights since they opened Trail Ridge Road which meant you got the chance to see Grand Lake area... Just beautiful, saw several female moose with their day old calves. I really hope we get the chance to enjoy yourself as much as we did... Best Wishes for safe travels...

What exactly did you beef up on your chassis? I'm looking into different items like the Safety-T-Plus device, just wondering what you actually did... Thanks for any assistance...

Ron installed Sumo Springs front and back on our Axis ... having returned from a week on the roads of western Kansas, Okalhoma and Texas...he says this was a great improvement. Still thinking about doing the Safety Plus.

Alignment, Saf-T-Plus first. Just had spacers put in to raise the rear bumper around 2" because of our driveway along with Koni shocks.

Spotted a Blue stripped Vegas with what I think was a white toad heading West on I-40 between mile marker 100 and 99 at just before noon today (Father's day).

Was that you Bill??

We were heading home after a trip to Smokey Mountain Meadows Campground in Bryson City NC. Went trout fishing, did real good (with the help of a great local guide, Ronnie from Smoky Mountain Outdoors Unlimited)!

I am in the 2018 FR3 28DS on the left.

I want to thank the Axis & Vegas owners on this forum. I almost bought an 2016 Axis 25.2 last fall but it was on an E-350. I liked the floor plan with the rear bed slide. But it lacked a few things I wanted. I wanted a floor-plan with windows on both sides. To get that I had to move up to the larger Class A. I looked at the Thor A.C.E at the local Axis dealer but I did not like any less than 30' to fit in my driveway. I decided on a 2018 Forest River FR3 28DS. It is under 30' and fits in my driveway.

I want to thank Ed for his Thor Vegas 24.1* Checklists & Users’ Guide. I downloaded it last year July while I was looking at an Axis 25.2 RUV.

Thanks to all and if I see you I will wave.

Robert

p.s. I am now on the Forest River FR3 forums.

Addendum to my weekend: Saw two Axis 24.1's and, since we were in the front row, at least 4 different people stopped by and asked about the coach (including one of the 24.1 owners).

I'd like to get back to Frankenmuth again some time. Miss those home style dinners, a little pricey, but worth it!

Come camp at the Yogi there--you can walk to the chicken dinners and thus walk back burning off a couple of those calories

Did you take your AXIS over trail ridge road?

How did it handle with the climbs and the sharp corners?

Thinking of going to Estes in our VEGAS in a few weeks...

Trail Ridge Road was no problem in the Axis

Hope this gets to you in time. We just got back from a 3 week trip out in that area. I drove our AXIS pulling a toad from Estes Park up to Yellowstone via Trail Ridge Road. Using low gear to slow down in a few spots, it was absolutely no problem at all (and I'm a newbie at RVing)! Yes, there are elevation grades and winding curves, but I felt like they were "long and slow" so you had plenty of time to adjust speed and course if that makes sense. We drove on a few other mountain roads on our trip that were "tight and narrow" and those were the ones that made me really focus and drive slow.

Pat
