AXIS/VEGAS tinting drivers and passenger windows
Has anyone tinted the drivers and passengers side windows?
Thought if we did, that it would help cut down the heat coming in, but not sure if it would hurt seeing in the side view mirrors.
If you have tinted them, what % of tint did you use?
Has anyone tinted the windshield, or is that even legal?

We put cheap cling tint on front side windows today. Seems 20% vlt will be good on lower half. Upper section will get 5% vlt. We will also use the 5% on all the other windows. May get tint strip added on top of windshield.
It made huge difference in heat. Will be leaving on trip soon. When we get back, will have professional do. We wanted to test % before permanent. Seems to help night time reflection from inside of windows too.

Have done both pass and drivers window with 3m Crystalline which rejects more heat and up than darker tints.

Ron inquired about tinting the side windows on our Axis...the local tint master asked him to bring the MH down as he wanted to see what kind of glass was used on the side windows. He told Ron if a person installs the wrong tint, the glass can overheat and break.
Somewhere, on this Form, this issue has been addressed, previously.

There are several different brands of tint similar to the Crystalline. If you don't want your windows darker there are clear sun blocking tints that have the same properties with no tint, they even have it for windshields. Doubt you can do a MH windshield because that is put on in one piece. I have the clear on both sides of my Yukon and can't feel any heat even on bright Texas days.

I have a friend who just tinted the windshield in a Palazzo. He is amazingly skilled and patient, but he surprised even himself that he was able to do it.

I'm definitely considering having this done! I have a history of melanoma and the amount of sunlight that streams into the drivers side window is of great concern!
I just need to decide how dark to go!

I tinted mine with the 3M Crystalline product, 1 shade darker than clear, side windows and windshield. Coming back from Tahoe the other day it was 109, and we were driving into the sun. It worked very well. Very pleased!

We went ahead and had the windshield and the drivers and passengers windows tinted..
WHAT A DIFFERENCE! When driving home from tint installation, there was a remarkable decrease in reflection and glare in the windshield. Along with a nice decrease in heat transmitted...
I know it is in my head, but it was even easier to drive ...
Definitely worth the money

We went with 55% on the windshield (the installation company had to special order the tint to be in one piece for the VEGAS windshield) and 45% for the side windows.
We had the "CXP" tint installed that was supposed to achieve better UV and heat reduction than just normal tint.
Not "real" dark, but definitely an improvement!

I have a question about tinting the windshield. Once the tint is applied, how do you clean the windshield? When my windshield gets dirty I clean it with 0000 steel wool then I apply Rainex! I assume you can't do that with the tint applied!

You can still use the steel wool on the outside, just not on the interior...
That would be a soft rag and normally water

I had no idea the tin t was on the inside! I watched a couple of YouTube videos and they applied it to the outside!
Makes much more sense for it to be on the inside!
Thanks for educating me!

I think what you were possibly seeing on the videos was them making the pattern and getting ready to apply the tint piece. They generally do that on the outside, make some cuts, but apply the tint wet on the inside.

I plan to have the windows on my Axis tinted before I leave for my trip next month.
The customer service rep suggested a residential film rather than an automotive film.
He also told me they probably would not be able to do the windshield because of the curvature.
I don't know the difference between residential film and automotive. Which did you have installed on your RV?

We had automotive UV blocking on the VEGAS. We just had the driver's and passengers side windows done (lower) and the windshield. They were able to do the windshield (they accidentally put a small scratch in the lower passenger side, but I didn't complain)
They said it was the largest windshield they had done.
They didn't put the tint on the very top of the windshield where the black sun blocking bumps are. They were having an issue getting good seal with the raised texture and gave me the choice of trying it or not. I went with their suggestion.
The tint definitely cuts the glare and makes driving much easier(at least for me)
