Cheap “protection” what traveling with pets...

I constantly see “lost dog” and “found dog” posts on my FB groups.
What’s going to happen if your pup chases a deer (or some such) and gets separated while you’re in a strange town?
Sure - you can say “he’s chipped so the finder will locate us,” but that means you’re depending on a Good Samaritan taking the found pup to a vet and having it read...
And meanwhile, you’re panicking, posting in every FB group you can think of...

I got a google voice phone number and have it auto transferred to my cell, Ms. WT’s cell and the home phone number.
I bought an engraved, reflective collar on amazon for under $20 with the boy’s name, the google voice number, and “reward” on it.
There’s no guarantee that he’ll be returned to me, but it’s WAY better than hoping that someone will scoop him up and take him to a vet.

(I also have small stickers taped to “losable” items that say “if found, please call xxx.” It got my long time knife returned to me a couple of years ago!)

There is a thread that is titled Traveling Pets that addresses some issues.

http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f28...they-2378.html

We bought a bag of disposable cardboard key tags. When we get to a campground we break out a key tag sand write the pets name and site number of the tag. The system has never been tested so I hope it works if the pet wanders off.

That’s a good idea in that you always put a tag on. So there’s not a lot of time for it to fall off. Our boy’s “I’m chipped” dog tag was the first tag to fall off his collar, leading me to think that there’s got to be a better way. When romping thru the woods, tags can fall off.

If you've got a dog that's a "runner":
1. keep them on a leash... NO exceptions!
2. keep them indoors... NO exceptions!
3. Get the dog one of those "tracker collars"; that hunters use with their dogs.

^^^what he said^^^ Not a fan of people in public that let their dogs run loose...just because "they're good dogs" and they're mine. If he/she don't behave very well on command...put a rope around their neck. If that doesn't work...tie the rope to a tree limb...a real high limb.

I'm always amazed by some who are allowed to keep pets.

'oh, he's one of my children'
Good. Have him pick a rest home for you.

Before I take any flak for the link:
Think twice.

Mine is only five pounds...
But if anybody thinks that their "well-behaved" unleashed dog is going to have a chance to turn her into a chew toy: they will be sadly mistaken.
