It seems to me most of the "mess" comes from the location of the latch. This doesn't allow the seal to do its job in that area. I placed some self adhesive foam just below the seal, where the latch is located, on the motorhome itself. That greatly reduced the road grime access into the area.
I also take a 5 foot length of paper towel and roll it up to fit just inside on the floor of the kitchen. Any dust that gets in can be easily taken care of by lifting out the paper towels.
Bottom line is it's a poor design. The latch needs to be further down to allow the rubber seal to have complete contact around the kitchen opening. My solution isn't perfect but does help quite a bit.
Anyone else a a better fix, I'm open to it.
