Angry Flat spotted tires.

Hi all, woody here. My wife and I are recently retired and are newbies to the RV world. We purchased a 2016 Thor Ace 30.1 from camping world in Berkley, MA a few weeks ago. When we drove it home I noticed a severe steering wheel shimmy at 60-65 MPH. There were a few other issues as well, minor in nature though. We brought in for its service on Monday, Sept 14. Well after having it for over a week camping world called us today saying that all 6 tires have flat spots and will have to be replaced at our expense. Needless to say that didn't sit well with us. We contacted Thor headquarters and Camping world corporate headquarters as well to resolve this issue. I for one do not think it should be our responsibility to pay for replacement tires on a brand new vehicle. We should hear back from corporate in 2 days.

My question would be why are the tires flat spotted? We had a shock stick on our Mandalay Presidio diesel and when we noticed the flat spots on the tires, that is when we found the problem with the shock.

Before putting new tires, have the shocks checked to be safe.

The most common cause for flat spots is a coach sitting in one location for an extended period of time. This will normally correct itself after the coach has been run and the tires reach operating temperature. If this is not the case then the tires are defective and should be replaced under the tire warranty, not at your expense. The new tires on a new coach are under warranty and Camping World should know this. Sounds like a rip-off to me.

Also possible the delivery driver made a panic stop at speed.

Woody,

What was the final outcome?

Hi Shawn, Thor corporate and Camping world did step up to the plate for new tires and a front end alignment.

Woody,

Glad to hear that. Doesn’t surprise me that camping world tried to put the responsibility on you. I wonder how many times they get away with it.

When I bought a new Class C from them they sent me down the road with 5 tires grossly under inflated. 40 psi instead of 80 psi.

It would be interesting to see how many invoices were charged to a customer by that CW location and also reimbursed to dealer by Thor.

We bought our rig from CW in Berkley MA last year. I would never take it there for any service. They are horrible!! A friend of ours was a salesman there. He moved on after a few years. Said nothing gets done there unless you put a gun to someone’s head. Still waiting for our bedroom cabinet door to be replaced since our walkthrough last Aug.
