Full side slide out problems

As anyone had major problems with a full side slide on a Thor wind star 34j? We have a 2017 and it stopped working. One motor is gone and teeth are ground down.

We have a 2017 ACE 29.3. We have had a couple of problems with it not going in or out but found that if this does happen, I need to bring up the jacks, and try it again. Sometimes all I need to do is hold the switch in the last direction the side was traveling. i.e. if I was extending it out and it won't come back in, I try to extended it again and then bring it back in. We have a Swinteck (sp) type system. How long have you had you RV? And when did it show signs of broken gears?

I have a 2017 Hurricane 34J and it would stop after going out a foot and I would have to pull it in and go out again and it would work fine. Told the dealer and they realigned and re calibrated the motors. Works fine now. I think I probably messed it up in the beginning as I forgot to put the drivers seat back up and ended up hitting it with the slide.

I hope I don't jinx myself but I have a 2015 Hurricane 34 F with full wall slide and I have not had any problems with it but I always make sure I sync the motors when I extended it or retract it by holding the button for a extra 5 seconds. Also I don't move it unless the generator is running or connected to SP. Lippert has some good YouTube videos on this.

2018 Thor ACE 27.2

Hi--We purchased an ACE 27.2 in December 17. After our first trip we had an issue retracting the bedroom slide. The left side seemed to jam. After working the switch and muscling the slide from the exterior we did get it to retract. My wife said she heard a cracking noise come from under the bed. After we got home, I attempted to extend the slide and it would not go out. It seemed to be jamming again on that left side. After working the switch approximately 10 times and giving it a little push on the left side it did finally extend. I found a 3 inch piece of broken plywood under the bed, which explained the cracking noise my wife heard. We managed to get the slide back in and I dropped it off today at Camping World for a warranty check. This was a brand new RV, and this is not the first major warranty problem we have had. I am beginning to regret purchasing a Thor.

Same as Thor29.3inAZ above. The new 3Trac System requires specific function. When you put slide in or out you must hold the button another second or two once it completes it's cycle. This is so contrary to the past slides where we repented to God every time we operating the slides. The new system actually re-programs itself at the end of each cycle...in or out, as long as you continue to hold the button for a second or two. AND...the re-program feature works good. We went to extend the other day and slide wouldn't do anything. I held the button "in" for a second, then pushed the "out" button...out she went perfectly.

On mine they say to hold the button until all the motors stop. It sets an error that you clear the next time you move it in the other direction. That's why the first time you press the button nothing happens. It clears the error from the time before. The second press and hold actually runs the cycle.

I've been real pleased with the 3 Trac System...very smooth and powerful. Previous TT had the cable system...it was always scary every time I activated it.

Slide Videos on YouTube

There are several good videos on YouTube about the slide(s) on your Thor product. Just enter schwintek in the search box. The one on re-timing the slide is:

Here's a tip. When you check the fluid, how can you tell how much fluid is on the stick? Lay it on a paper towel and then it's easy to see then.

2018 Thor ACE 27.2 - Rear Slide Warranty Update

We took the RV back to camping world for a warranty check, and sure enough they found that the slide was grinding against the floor. Below is a copy of what CW submitted to Thor. I have to say that I am very disappointed with the quality of this RV. I wish I had bought a different brand.

COMPLAINT: C/S My ACE is having an issue with the rear slide. I struggled to get it to retract at the end of
our last trip, and when it finally did my wife said it made a loud cracking sound. I was outside lifting up on
the slide and pushing it to get it in. This morning I went to extend it, and it took 10 tried before it finally went
out, and when it did I found a 3 inch broken piece of plywood beneath it.
CAUSE: found the slide with only go out 2in found the sliders are chewing up the underbelly and are
causing the slide to hang up. You can not get the camera in to take the picture.
CORRECTION: need to remove the slide out racks to free up the slide so I can pull the slide out to fix the
underbelly and fix what is ripping up the underbelly. Need to remove the outside slide facia for the forklift to
get under the slide. then need to unscrew the slide racks pick up on the side out a small amout and then
remove the inside slide facia to pull the slide out the rest of the way to access the base of the slide out to
repair then reinstall everything. 9hrs needed to do the repair

I have a 2017 Hurricane 34J and it's the full wall slide too. I'm in camp and I don't think it leveled perfectly when I put the jacks out in manual mode (my auto function isn't working properly!). I put the slide out and then noticed we weren't quite level. I went to move the jacks slightly to level it and the jacks won't move now. I'm guessing the slide is too heavy? The slide won't come in now and I can't level....HELP!!!

I suspect you have other problems. The slide doesn’t weigh any more when it’s out than when it’s in and unless you are way, way out of level I think it would retract anyway. And I think the jacks should be able to lift it just fine. If you really think being out of level is your problem you could try lowering the other side either with the jacks or by letting the air out of your tires. Or use a couple of hydraulic jacks under the frame on the slide side. Before doing that though I’d get out my volt meter and do some troubleshooting on the slide and the jacks. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the response. I was actually able to get it in today while it was in the same level condition so it's definately something else as you pointed out! There are signs of grinding on the s tracks and the roller plates so it's going in to the shop as soon as I land in PHX!

First off your manual specifically states to level the motorhome first. Either automatically or manually.
I have found the automatic function may lift the wheels off the ground.
I use a good old bar level and level manually.

First drop the front jacks and lift the front 1-2”
Next drop the rear jacks and do the same as the front.
Then use the bubble level to level

Then level left to right or visa versa which ever side is lowest. Use the bubble level again to the correct level.

Once level extend the slide. Do not make level adjustments with the slides out.

The frame of the motorhome does twist during leveling. You want to get the frame level before putting out the slides.

Always retract the slides before you retract the jacks.

Hope this helps.

Slide and Jack oil reservoir

I have a 2015 Thor 27.1 Class A. Starting to have problems extending and retracting my slide. I push on the sink to extend and push from the outside while my wife pushes the retract button (getting old!) I checked the oil reservoir with the jacks extended and slide out and it appears half full with no apparent oil on the dip stick. I read somewhere that I should find some Dexnor (ATF) oil and fill to the line on the tank with the jacks and slide retracted. I could use some advice please.

Do you have something other than a Schwintec slide. If it is Schwintec the jacks and reservoir have nothing to do with slide operation.

Does your slide have tracks on the outside? If so it’s Schwintec.

I think Dave is correct. As an oner of a 2016 27.1 you probably have an electric (Schwintek) slide and not a hydraulic slide. Your hydraulics are for the levelers. Half-full with the levelers extended may be normal. Check the reservoir on level ground with all levels retracted.

As far as your slide goes: that big wall slide ios a big ask for the two track Schwintek system. I would recommend two things:

Verify your slide motors are synchronized, then after every full extend or retract cycle continue to hold the button for 5 seconds.
https://store.lci1.com/blog/retiming...syncing-issues
(It's funny the top picture on the above page is not even a Schwintek slide)

You may have to go as far as this:

Check and lube the slide rollers under the slide. They are very difficult to get to. Extend the slide and hold the wiper on the bottom out of the way. Inspect with a flashlight, lube with a directed spray lubrication can.
