Generator gas consumption

Got setup camping at 11 pm Tuesday, Generator has run nonstop since.
Yesterday with both air units, at least one the night time. Checked my gas gauge and it hasn't moved from full. Was going to go buy about 20 gallons so when we leave, we don't have to fuel up for a while.
Book says that 5500 will use a half gallon at half load and a gallon at full, per hr.

I'm thinking I should've used a quarter of a tank of fuel by now.

Any thoughts on this ?

I think your fuel consumption estimate may be a little high because at night air conditioners don't run steady most of the time. Onan specs show .3 GPH at no load and .6 GPH at 50%, which is around 23 Amps. Averaged over one day and two nights you may have used less than you think.

I have no idea why it won't show a decline on fuel gauge -- hopefully others may know. I've driven many cars that when tank is full, it has to be driven quite a bit before gauge moves at all.

If you started out with full tank, i wouldn't worry about refilling so soon just because of generator. You should still have plenty left.

Chance is right, your generator will use less fuel than stated because your AC is cycling the compressor off and on meaning less fuel burned. My coach fuel gauge doesn't move for quite a while after a fill up, wouldn't worry. The generator will starve for fuel once you get down to 1/4 tank so you'll still have plenty left.

Thanks guys, I'm still in the learning mode with how things work on this coach. I think I'll still go buy 12 gallons for later. I had it topped right off thinking it would use a whole tank in the 5 days we're here.

On our Axis (yeah E350 chassis) I have to drive over 100 miles (10+ gallons) before the fuel gauge moves at all.

When you guys are "off the grid": what percentage of time (approximately), is spent with the generator running?
Have any of you also tapped into solar power?
Does that make for a significant reduction in generator usage?
