The good news...and the bad!!!

The good news is we picked up our 2018 Windsport yesterday after only an 8 week wait from the factory (we were told 10-12). Also, the NSA Brute Elite tow bar worked perfectly and my Rubicon followed along with no problems.

The bad part was even with the Safe-T-plus steering control installed...it was terrible trying to keep that thing straight...Constantly moving steering wheel! Maybe an alignment will help once I get it loaded...[emoji15] Click image for larger version

Welcome to the world of MH ownership! Coming from a background of pulling fivers I never dreamed that most of these gas MH's handled like a wallowing pig on the highway.

You will probably now embark on some research involving the CHF (cheap handling fix), sway bars, Sumo springs, or air bags. I predict in the next several months your will drop somewhere between $600 and $3,000 into your suspension upgrades.

The good news...and the bad!!!

I am in the middle of a 7000 mile trip on a 2017 Axis and we just stopped in Minnesota to have the alignment done at a truck center who also works on motorhomes. We did not do it when we got the MH like they recommend upon delivery. It made a HUGE difference once the alignment was done.

There are 4 things wrong with the handling on most all gas motorhomes (class C or A), & they are in order #1 - F, #2 - O, #3 - R, #4 - D chassis. Just my .02 cents after driving Ford trucks at work for 30+ years, just the nature of the beast.

Don't forget you'll likely have to re-center the Safe-T-Plus after alignment.

The Ford F-53 stripped chassis is licensed by Ford but is actually designed and manufactured by Detroit Chassis. HD Ford trucks are built by Ford in the Louisville, KY truck plant. Thor Motor coaches built on the F-53 chassis are highly modified by LCI in Elkhart.

Thanks for the info...alignment followed by re-adjust on the steering control is the plan!

My experiences echo's some support to that... Every Ford cutaway or strip chassis rig I've had was at least slightly annoying in the handling department except for one, a delivery type box shell on an E-350 cutaway that carried sleeping bags and some basic camping goods (very lightweight). Dodge and GM chassis RVs had smoother rides and far better driving feel without adding to or reworking the suspension.

Congratulations on your new coach!!! If you look at modifications and updates in the forum go to Jerry's Hurricane mods, you'll find lots of great ideas for the 29M!

I have a 29m and tow a jeep. I found the best mod was a rear track bar and chf.

You'll get it dialed in. Every coach is different. Good luch and travels.

And i like your colors. Looks familiar.

My New 2017 Thor Synergy 24tt

This is how I feel now that I made a large purchase from Thor Motor Coach, talked with their emergency contact people for after hours help, Thor customer service, Thor warranty people and their customer service person named Jaime (female). Terrible quality. The only good thing about this entire coach is the Mercedes chassis.

Find a Ford Truck Center .. that is what we did in the K.C. area.
There is a site which you can go to, which will tell you which center/dealer is closest to your location.

fordcommercialvehiclecenter.com/findDealer/init#!

this information/site was posted today by another forum member
