I think it's made in China. There are a bunch for sale that look identical but with different names. One company probably makes them all.



At $60 it a fair gamble. So far it been good. The company monitors negative reviews and responds quickly.

We use the CoPilot app on an Ipad (so I can see it while driving) that is connected to a Bad Elf gps, works great!!

I think what Gritz is trying to tell you is that when you've got this much invested in your rig: a GPS unit is not the best place to try and save money...

Seriously: I don't know the quality of the unit you've described. I can only hope (for your sake), that it does as good a job as the RV 770...

Garmin has proven to be a trusted component...
We just don't have a "track record" for yours.

I hope that it turns out to be exactly what you needed, and gives you years of flawless performance!

Let's remember: you STILL have to use your own brains also. If you trust the technology blindly: you might just get tripped-up by it!

And that goes even for Garmin!

Am I reading correctly that to get traffic data the Garmin needs to be coupled to a phone via Bluetooth?

Nope, my Garmin 3590 has a traffic radio receiver built into the power cord. The first time the Garmin announces "Changing your planned route to save 34 minutes", it gets your attention. After five years, I just trust "Jill" to point me in right direction.

I believe the Garmin units use the traffic info from SiriusXM and as such aren't limited by cell phone signal availability. (It does, of course, mean that they have to be able to "see" the satellites--or a repeater if you're driving in a city.)

It depends on the Garmin Model. If you got a LMT model that has a power cord with a "brick" in it, it receives traffic info over the radio band, just like some in-dash radios do.


If it is a LMT-S model then it can receive "Live Traffic" info from your Smartphone App, but it doesn't have to. The RV 770LMTS uses both the HD radio traffic info as well as the Smartphone trafic info.

Garmin has three different traffic services - Garmin traffic, Garmin HD digital traffic and Garmin live traffic with smartphone link. The info is provided by a subscription service and is transmitted on the sub channel on specific FM radio stations. The power cable used is a Garmin GMT 60. There is always a traffic icon displayed on the right of the GPS screen. The Icon has three colors - green, yellow and red. Touching the display will provide the info. If in voice mode - saying " Garmin traffic information" will have the traffic info displayed and read.

That's exactly the part I found offensive. Because I didn't spend a lot of money on the GPS he has I'm going to drive into a low bridge and end up on Youtube. A GPS is a convenient gadget we survived decades without.



I would have been happy to hear about the best there is without the implications about being cheap and stupid because I didn't buy the one he has.



I like what you said about trusting blindly. If the Garmin didn't warn of a low bridge should I drive under it anyway?

After watching those photos.... all the more reason to really read those signs on the road. Oh yeah, Meeman-Shelby state park north of Memphis, Tn. has a lot of trees over the road that are awful low. Have to pay attention cause the road is narrow too.

Any GPS is better than no GPS. We went to Bainbridge GA for a boat race on the river...the "RV" GPS routed us in what I thought was a little bit weird way, zig-zagging through two small towns. Turned out, the crossings over a couple RR Tracks in town were elevated and an RV or long wheelbase truck would have bottomed out on them. Programing the specifics of the unit is a plus and can save a lot of backtracking or an embarrassing having to back up several blocks in a downtown area. There also was a low pedestrian crosswalk over one of the roads near a school we would have otherwise taken...12'-0" and also a NO TRUCK ZONE. the MH is 12'-6".
