There is also a couple of apps that I use on my Iphone for quick reference while traveling as to which states have reciprocity with my state.
The CCW app will tell you that. Just search the app store as there are others that have different types of information. The web site bjones3211 suggested is good.

NRA...always up to date. The interactive map is easy to use. It's my "Carry Bible" when traveling. While a given state may reciprocate, some small cities can be issues. Never ask a local cop what the gun laws are. To them, it's saying..."I have a gun on me...is it OK"?

Great, thx. From Mass and evidently can’t get to anywhere who recognizes Mass even though one of the most stringent States.

I agree with Gritz: ask the folks who really know the laws...

Most states base their reciprocity on how other states receive theirs. GA & SC had issues for years...SC requires you to own property in order to obtain a carry permit. GA doesn't so SC would not honor GA's...in return, GA would not honor SC's. It will not be long before this "pissing contest" becomes federally managed...all will be better then. If you have a permit in your home state it will be good anywhere.

"Reciprocity" is a four-letter word in my State...

Oh I hope so Gritz. I certainly hope so. Should have happened the first two years.

For guns it is. But reciprocity for size of soft drinks drinks allowed would pass in a New York minute. Sorry, don’t mean to poke at another persons state.

No one will take Mass for reciprocity because they won’t accept other states. Really needs to be, like Gritz stated, federal reciprocity. You can get carry licenses in some states that are acceptable in 38 other states. Some can even be acquired by non-residents. My memory fails me on which states.

Utah is one that is recognized in 30+ states and you can obtain it without ever going to Utah. When I applied several years ago it was about a three hour class. No range time. Check your local CCW instructors and see if they cover Utah, many do. Once you have it renewal is just on line or by mail.

If you are headed for California you may want to check on the new law going into effect on July 01 concerning ammo. You can not buy out of state and bring it into the state. And if you buy ammo here there will be a back ground check. And of course you must have your weapon locked up and any ammo must be also locked up separate from the weapon. Make sure you verify the laws here, they are not friendly.

Poke all that you want: I'm more than happy and willing to agree with you!
As soon as we can retire and sell everything: we'll be out of this piece of crap place in a heartbeat...

That will not happen...let's keep this very interesting thread on subject as the knowledge of carry laws from state to state is vital and the Mods will shut it down if it gets too political. It's one of the very few things that can change your life in an instant. Regardless of what the laws state, you are totally subjective to the opinion of the LEO that may pull you over or challenge you in public. There are many things working for us in the background in DC. The Federal Reciprocity Act is actually a reality. Google this subject as there are lots of reads. The biggest issue is the difference in your ability to "carry" (on your body while way from your vehicle) in other states versus your ability to "possess" (having a weapon in your vehicle) in other states. As an RV Road Warrior, I feel the biggest concern most have is just having a weapon in your coach while traveling through other states. Now, it;s important to know the laws of each state in that regard...as in California...now you must have the gun empty and locked away...separate from any ammo, which must be locked away also.

So still fuzzy. am I legal to transport in a state I travel through that isn’t reciprocal if I lock the gun and ammunition in separate containers not in the glove and dash area?
