..."I've found most TSA Agents very friendly to carrying and have had zero issues with checking weapons...as long as you are legal to carry where you are going."...

As Smokey Bear quoted so well in 50's and 60's..."Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires!" Don't rely on what anyone else tells you...do your own research. Print your confirmations and carry them with you.

Now I wouldn't run to the bank with that, but it might be worth while checking into.

While federal law allows (since 2010) in National Parks it does defer to the state the park is in... and there are restrictions on certain facilities within parks.
Here is one link from National Park Service:
https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/manag...arks2-2010.pdf

Many, but not all, state allow open carry - some with restrictions (FL only allows while hunting/fishing/camping or on way to/from those activities)

Research where you are going for specific details... Don’t assume...

Five states (California, Florida, Illinois, New York, and South Carolina), as well as the District of Columbia, generally prohibit people from openly carrying handguns in public places. Thirty-one states allow the open carrying of a handgun without any license or permit, although in some cases the gun must be unloaded.

Each to their own, but open carry in public is purely an ego thing and downright stupid. Why would you want to give someone an advantage over you? Why flaunt? The element of surprise will always win out. If a bad guy came in the place you were...YOU will be his first target. Plus, open carry in public gives any LEO "Reasonable Suspicion" to challenge you, if for no other reason but to check your permit...or some "Soccer Mom" a reason (in their mind) to call the law on you and their story over the phone will not be in your favor. KISS is the Best Medicine!

I hate to say that you're wrong: but you might be "a bit short on being right."
New York State does NOT specify the method of carry (open, versus concealed.)
Their permits on grant "permission to carry"

Let us know how that works for you... (might work in Sullivan County... NY laws are a mess..)

Overwhelmingly sites say no open carry in NY... the law doesn’t distinguish, but the permit laws indicate permit is issued to carry concealed...
“The law is extremely vague on open carry. Open carry in public is not legal in most instances. While no law specifically bans open carry, a license to carry is issued to carry concealed as per penal law 400. Therefore, pistol permit holders must carry concealed. Open carry permitted while hunting and possibly on one's own property. Open carry of unloaded long guns is not explicitly prohibited by any law, but is generally not practiced. It is illegal however to transport an uncased long gun in a motor vehicle, unless it is in the trunk or a compartment not accessible by anyone inside the vehicle.”

A native New Yorker here... with family still there...

(Btw, your address and dob is still quite readable...)

The permit says what it says... and New York State Police have agreed with me as to what it means...

Yes: New York's laws are a mess: but look who's running the nuthouse in Albany!

I totally agree with you. I wasn't advocating anybody open carry.
Just sharing some info.
Believe it or not. I have seen numerous in our local Walmart with it strapped on the outside.
That got my curiosity aroused enough to call the County Leo's.

They informed me it was perfectly legal, but continued with----I would advise you not to sling your shotgun over your shoulder and walk thru Walmart. He said might be getting many calls about you.

Pretty hard to conceal carry anything that would deter a bear or other large predator.

Bears and other large predators have no business in the malls, gas stations, restaurants and movie theaters. If you see one...beware of the crossfire!

That's an awesome set up. But I carry concealed. No one needs to know I'm carrying

Good for you...
I try to carry according to what the circumstances require...

But my favorite rig: a Galco S.O.B., with "Old Slabsides" tucked firmly into it!
If you wear a shirt with a long tail: it'll do a good job of hiding it!

I think this thread has been hijacked. Lol. Open carry is most circumstances is ego no doubt. But if concealed is not a choice than open carry it is.

Some very good points in general. It’s to bad the politicians have made compliance so difficult on such an important aspect of our constitutional right.
