HELP ASAP! Slide out awning issue!!!

Just pulled into a campground in Harrisburg,pa. While I was outside hooking up utilities I had wife extend slides on our 2016 Hurricane 35C. I had already leveled it so it was OK. Slide came out about 8 inches and bang! She stopped extending as I looked up. The awning over the slide disconnected at one end ( toward the rear).
Has this happened to anyone else? We are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning and not sure if I can get the slide back in. Pictures attached. I’m 70 years young but not sure I want to climb the rear ladder and no extension ladder in the campground. Click image for larger version

From what I see the slide will not go all the way in. If the front is still connected, someone will need to hold the topper rail up (rear) so the slide will clear it. Then you will have to refasten if possible or secure with bungee cords until you can get service. Hope this helps. Jerry

OUCH

Taking it off and putting it inside would be the best thing to do, if it will go in and fit.
Try moving your picnic table and standing on it to get it lose, maybe a stool or short ladder on the table.

If you can't get it off, use the table/ladder to tie a rope to it, then throw the rope over the MH and pull it up while the slide closes.
Securing it for travel WILL NOT be easy!

If you do get on the roof, don't be embarrassed about crawling around on your hands and knees. Lay down on your stomach when working on the topper.

GOOD luck and keep us updated.

HELP ASAP! Slide out awning issue!!!

We had the same thing happen on our 2016 35C back in May. The rear spring support just bent and then sheared off the one screw holding it in place to the outer bracket. We heard a loud bang and went to investigate and it was dark and raining. I was able to find a similar threaded screw and get it back together using my drill and extension ladder. We downloaded the manual and followed the procedure to let the spring unwind and then wind it back up and fasten it back.

It is still squirrelly because the bracket got bent so I was looking at possibly getting the replacements from Carefree to get it back to factory shape. It is about $90 and comes in a pair, so you can’t just get one end or the other, you get the whole kit.

Brakeman...how did you come out? If you're still dealing with this, grab a limb or stick nearby and see if you can push up on the end of the awning assembly just as the slide approaches full close. I think the material of the topper will keep it from falling further down. You will still need to secure it for travel or remove it if you can. Grab a couple of "young guns" around the campground to help you. Removing it will be your best option and will not further interfere with the rest of your trip. If you can unbolt the other side, the material just slides out of a receiver type tube against the side of coach. Let us know...sitting on the edge of our seats! Good luck and be careful.

Thanks to all that replied! I found someone this morning at the campground that had a six foot ladder. That hit me close enough to raise the injured end of the awning so we could raise it up enough to close the slide. I then secured it with a 1/4 inch rope I had around the stand pipe on the roof. Got to our destination to examine. As one other explained the screw came out which caused the issue. Really, a sheet metal screw into extruded aluminum with a strong spring pressure. I am surprised this POS lasted as long as it did. I have a couple days to figure out a better way to secure this mechanism.

Great to hear you got the slide in. It’s amazing how much one sheet metal screw can do!
