Last year we drove from Florida to California in 4 days! So, I'm probably the worst person to ask.

In the daylight we stopped to see the sights, (New Orleans, Carlsbad Caverns, Grand Canyon, Sedona Cliffs), and then ate and caught few hours of sleep. From 12:00 a.m. until about 2:00 p.m. I drove as far as possible each day. Coffee in the morning, Mountain Dew all day!

<--- me at about 1:30 p.m. during that trip!!

For myself, kinda dogmatic for 250. Will wavier for extenuating cases. My position, if we need to get there any faster, we take the family GMC. 250 or less physically, and mentally forces me and my wife to enjoy the trip: which is why we purchased the rig anyway.

Lazy Days

I know it sounds ridiculous to most people, but I limit my driving to 4 hours a day, and really prefer 3. Anything more than that and it just becomes a chore. I truly am one of those that smells the roses along the way. In that 4 hours of driving, I don't mind stopping 5 times if there is something worth stopping for. (Could just be a nice rest area!) I have lots of time FINALLY and sometimes you miss some wonderful things by flying by them. The other reality is I have a 20 year old hip replacement and too many hours of driving just makes it hurt. Why hurt if I don't have to right?

I don't think it sounds ridiculous. I envy that you can get away from home in 3 to 4 hours!

Living in the Los Angeles metro area I must drive for at least 3 hours, (and 4 on a Friday evening in traffic), just to get out of town. Then, another three hours to reach the quiet and secluded destination.
