National Fishing License
Wouldn't it be great if RV'ers could purchase a National Fishing License?
Pull over anywhere and drop a line?
You would think a lot of Sportsman & Recreational Clubs would be in favor of this?

But license revenues are significant to local and state agencies. Still a national pass would be good. Or do like me, no line on the reel, the pole's for keeping the left hand busy while the right is drinking beer. [emoji41]

An idea would be. 75% State 25% National cut in the Fee. All national 25% distributed from the pool to All of the States?
You would still have a choice for State License or a National License.

Fishing and hunting licenses, like driver licenses, and even your auto insurance, are all STATE based rules and fees. They are driven by the needs of each individual area, locale, or state, not any 'national' singular code or rule or law.
We are the United STATES, not the NATIONAL State.

Would seem like you would need a Drivers License for EVERY STATE then?

essentially you do, but states have a 'reciprocal' recognition agreement that provides for mobility between states as long as the driver has the 'recognized' license from their home state.
and while fish and animals 'move' between states themselves, the same agreement does not apply.
People are one thing, animals are another.

would love a national license. Could be an add on to your state license. In Ca license is only for fresh water. You can add salt water and a fresh water second rod
So national license would require you to buy state license

The reciprocity would be nice for the hunting and fishing.
We let your fishermen fish, you let ours...
I like that idea.
But, then again, if you camp at a private park, not a state or natl forest, you usually don't need a license if the lake is private.

Great idea to make if easier for individuals to enjoy the bounties of our natural wonders but I think that pesky Tenth Amendment to the Constitution may get in the way of federal government licensing.
If you somehow work it so the feds are a clearing house and each state getting a piece of the action the cost of a licence might be beyond that the average traveling angler might be willing to pay. Maybe something regional or ala carte that you can pick which states based on you travel plans. Just keep in mind no state will be willing to take a discounted or reduction of the revenue stream, no matter how small, that the current state level licensing brings in. And don't forget for every dollar the federal government distributes to the states cost .75 cents or so in administrative overhead so your costs are increasing even more for the convenience.
Plus too many city folk being elected these days at the Federal level that won't support anything other than a prohibition on the taking of ANY game nation wide and out to 200 miles off the cost. Be happy you don't need federal tags to go along with state for the game you do take considering the natural movement of critters across state lines and how the feds control interstate commerce. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that.

Fishing seems like an awful lot of work...
I'd rather just take a nap in a boat, or maybe drink some beer...
Oh, wait...

A National fishing license would work like this: First you would send in your application to the EPA, along with an 2"x2" photo taken within the past six months, along with an affidavit of ownership of federally approved fishing gear, along with non-refundable $300 application fee. Next, within 180 days, you will be granted a license to fish for one species of fish of your choosing. Additional species can be added by written request along with $100 per species up to a limit of five species, not to include any species on federal, state or local protected lists. You must register in advance specific sites you intend to fish with penalty of $500 for fishing on any site not approved. You may register online at the federal Obamacare website using "http://healthcare.gov/fishing".

I totally agree with the idea since my wife and I both love to fish and buying State Licenses can get expensive.

Therefore, gun licenses should also be reciprocal.

There is the https://www.mdwfp.com/conservation/w...l-johnson-act/ Where states get money from all fishing tackle. For example Mississippi has received $100,000,000 since 1950. Any state can opt out of the national fishing license but they would forfeit their dingell-johnson money.
To get a national license you would have to first have a license from your home state. Then when you bought a national tag. Each state would get a cut. The national tag would not be cheap. Maybe $50-$75.
When I visit states that have a reasonably priced license for the year I'll buy it. It is an incentive to come back to the state. I only get it if it is one year from date of purchases not calendar date. Especially if its 6 months into their year.
I love Lake Texoma. They sell a one year lake license for $12. I have bought one every year for the last 5 years and didnt even go there a couple of those years.
Roger
