No toad...no fun!

I've been on the road for a month now and I'm finding that not having a toad is a huge disadvantage! I'm in Moab and I've not been able to find a car to rent for less than $100 a day! One hundred bucks for a compact car seems like way to much to spend! Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps that's the going rate these days. Admittedly it's been a long time since I've rented a car.
I've tried to schedule a rafting trip but again no car so I can't get there!
Most of the places I've been so far I've depended on public transportation or unhooked everything and took the MH, but it's been 101 degrees here and there's no way I can leave my dog in the motor home with temps that high!
So I see a toad in my future but unfortunately not for this trip!!

Sorry to hear its been difficult for you without a car. I feared the same thing which is why I got the jeep. Also having a toad will help if you break down on the road and no cell service. You could drive to get help.

Have fun for the rest of youre trip.

what is the make and size of coach? would it be to hard to drive and run generator for ac and keep your dog cool while your out running around? seems that would be less expensive than renting a car.

There's a learning curve to traveling without a toad. We often pick campgrounds that either offer a shuttle or that local attractions do pickups. We've also used local transportation like a taxi or shuttle bus. We stayed at Canyonlands in town back in May and were able to get around most of the week without a toad.

Have done both, towed for years, now don't. Advantages and disadvantages to both, just depends on your travel mode.

I hate to say it because we absolutely love dogs, but since ours passed a few years ago, it's made a huge difference on how we travel.

Even when we didn't have to worry about temperature, we worried about leaving him alone while hiking or cycling for long periods. There is much we do now that we wouldn't do before, and I don't think toad versus no toad would have made a significant difference in that regard.

I expect we'll eventually get another dog or two, but can't imagine wanting to tow a car everywhere we go.

Toad or no toad doesn't affect what you're going to do with your pets while rafting.

Well , actually it does. With a toad he can leave the motorhome hooked up to AC in the campground with the A/C running and the dog left in it. He can take the Toad to the attraction and park it in the hot sun

Did you try Uber? I have not but it's on my list of things to try if I need to get around without my MH on a trip. X2 on the "advantages" of not having a dog. After our wonderful girl died (at nearly 17) we elected to go dogless for the first time in 40 years. It's hard but, so far at least, the advantages seem pretty good. Wife is weakening some though on getting a little dog. We'll see.

Bob that's one ugly toad!
I've learned many things during my 64 years and one of the most important ones is that in life there is always compromise!
There are truly advantages and disadvantages of traveling with a pet and with towing a vehicle as well. I can't imagine not having my dog with me. True he is an additional worry at times but that's true at the S&B as well as the MH.
I'm new to RV'ing so can't comment on the disadvantages of a toad but thus far it would have been an advantage to have one! Maybe its just that I'm accustomed to being able to come and go as I choose. Relying on rentals and Uber may not be for me!
When I purchased the Axis I planned to tow my 2006 Acura MDX, but apparently the 2005 models were the last ones that can be flat towed. Live and learn, but bad luck for me! Needless to say my next vehicle will be capable of being towed. That way I will have the option if I choose!

The only place we don't have a toad with us is Disney World. No reason to leave there and break the spell.
What little inconvenience is caused by towing is greatly overcome by the freedom of movement that little critter gives. We just got home from a month in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our toad served us well on the way up, while we were there and on our way home.

But to the the right Princess: he's a Prince!
We'll keep ours in the garage of our 29H. The Missus was willing to give up living space for the Bike!
(I guess that I married the right girl!)

Having the Jeep for alternate transpo is priceless. Get something light, like a Chevy Tracker or similar that is easy to hook up.

I've seen several running around town and at the beach. You can probably find plenty needing a little (or a lot) of work on Auto Trader.

Speaking of toads, I visited my Honda dealer the other day and found out that the HRV (replacement for CR-V) and the Fit can be had with a 6 speed transmission. Have to order them as most dealers only stock auto trans.

We've done two longs trips in our Vegas. The first one without a toad and the second one with. I don't think we'll go on an extended trip without a toad. so convenient and opens up possibilities of great experiences and simple errands. We really haven't noticed a difference in gas milage. Quite easy and quick to connect/disconnect our blue ox tow bar. The only con: There is a substantial initial investment getting a baseplate, braking system for the toad, and towbar.

We have used Uber several times with good success.
Just used one yesterday as it was raining and couldn't use the bikes.
The only problem with Uber is they are not available everywhere.
I just bought a Smart car for a toad for those occasions when we are in rural locations or leave for longer than a weekend.
