I agree 100%. I have found that by taking good care of expensive toys I have been able to sell them later to a private party at prices well above dealer offers of trade in as well as far above the current book value.
There is a big consumer dollar gap between what a dealer will offer as trade in value towards purchasing something new or bigger and what the current book value is. Smart owners bought at a great original discount, took very good care of maintenance and appearance of that purchase and can now sell it off at prices under the cost of new but far above book.
Savvy buyers have looked around and know when they are looking at something that has had lots of TLC. They like all of us are perfectly willing to shell out for a good price on a like new toy.
A few times I was very fortunate in buying. Kept the toy a few years and used it then sold it for what I paid and in one case a little more. Sure they all lose value the minute you drive it away, what doesn't? (except your dear wife of course)
It pays you to take good care of your toys.
