Not sure how old this issue is but you have recourse. Contact Motor Vehicles in Florida and report the dealer. See if they actually turned the money over to the State. If so, State will reimburse you if you show proof you paid again in home State. If they didn't turn the money over...major fraud and Florida will go after them. I bought in Florida and refused to pay Sales Tax to dealer.

I agree: something smells pretty fishy about all of this...

I've been involved with people that once a consideration was given them, a discount of an amount that represented the dealers respect for the buyer, the buyer jumped up and down, hugged, laughed till they cried and enjoyed every minute of the rest of their rv life.

I've been involved with people who haggle for hours, beat the dealer for $10 add-ons that needed 10 hours of labor to install, squeezed that last nickel, disrespected the finance guy and the process, bitched and moaned the entire rest of their rv experience FOR YEARS. We read their posts, daily.

Here's that key:
When you're happy, STOP. Stand up, shake their hand, be happy.

Go. HAPPILY buy your dream.

The dealer's respect for the buyer? That would be the dealer laboring to maintain as fat a margin as is humanly possible to support the dealership, staff, physical plant, taxes, adv budget, bonuses, commissions, etc? The dealer has respect for the buyer?

The finance guy? He has respect for the buyer? Hoo boy.

It is a full out financial assault on the buyer and the dealership specialists specialize in maxing out the amount you pay for their product. That is the undeniable reality of the system, so suppressing (you never beat the dealership) the damage to your wallet is essential.

I'll bet that (if you could get away with it) you'd just as soon argue with the neighborhood kid about what he charges for mowing lawns...
Dealers can't dicker on prices; without knowing how it impacts their bottom lines. Would you rather that they give things away until they go out of business?

When I walk out with the keys...if there's not blood all over the walls, office staff screaming..."OMG...they're all dead" and sirens blaring down on the dealership...I didn't do my job! Beat them to a pulp and pull the keys from their trembling hands!! Leave the check in a "Magic Money Puzzle Box" and throw it in the retention pond tied to a cinder block. Respect for an RV dealer Sales Goober??? Yeah...right!!!
