getting ready to purchase

I have owned a monaco and a winnebago Itasca. Due to health reasons had to out of MH adventures. Now ready to get back in and eventually go full time.
Would like opinions on a motorhome im looking seriously at.

2005 40' Mandalay, 30,000 miles, 350 Cat, four slides, washer/dryer and pretty much all the other standard accessories, new tires and battery all around.

Most likely could buy for 65,000.00. My question is "how happy have you been with your coaches"? Quality, reliability or any issues with a common thread. As this will be our home I just need to make sure I'm making a good choice.

Thanks for any and all input

Welcome to our Campfire!
I'll let the folks who've owned far more rigs than I have, get down to answering your questions about them...
But I will say that mine spent over six Months at the Dealership getting the punch-list ironed out!

Welcome to the forum! You have asked a good question, but I think you need to go to a broader, more general forum like IRV2.com or rv.net to get the kind of responses you need.
Good luck with your RV quest!

Check this page out! I think the biggest issue is that Thor will not stand behind their product

Note that people can't see that page unless you join the group. So not only do you have to be a member of facebook, you have to join the group.

There are a lot of horror stories right here in the forums, don't need an external place to see more.

On the whole, however, many have found that if you give Thor a chance they will make the effort to make things right (provided you do fall within warranty or something that obviously was wrong in warranty). Especially if you take your unit to factory service.

I was responding to the OP with requests for opinions. I bought new, bought an extended warranty from the dealer. Did everything right. Do you not think I haven’t called and emailed Thor ad nauseam with no luck? I am willing to overlook poor design and construction IF they would just take responsibility and fix their product. Facebook pages galore with desperate people who Thor is ignoring. I am glad to hear Thor has helped some with their issues, but that does help the many, many who are being stonewalled. If you were lucky and able to get your unit repaired, you should still be concerned about Thor’s reputation. Rv groups are filled with people saying run away from Thor units, meaning your rv will be harder to sell. There is a story in today’s paper about one such couple. Buying a Thor means you might be one of the unlucky ones like them. Roll of the dice.

I actually found that Thor was pretty reasonable in my dealings with them.
It was my Dealership that kept dropping the ball!

Forums are always full of complaints: remember that the folks who are the happiest, are the ones too busy enjoying themselves, to be posting!

Lucky you! I am having no luck with Thor. I’ve basically been told it was a design error that they don’t know how to fix, so my problem! I also realize forums are hotbeds for complaints, but people read them. I could send you dozens of postings on rv family sites where people say they are needing advice choosing between two brands/models. Posters tell them to run from the Thor model. That hurts us all, happy owners and unhappy owners alike. Complaints of Thor dropping the ball and not taking responsibility are too numerous to discount.

My Thor had about a dozen small issues that I addressed myself. It never had to “go in” for any service. I too found Thor and its suppliers to be interested and willing to assist in fixing things. There ARE folks with serious product issues (as with all products) but i think they are the exception rather than the norm.

My experience as well.

It’s also worth noting the OP asked about a 2005 coach. I would think all the bugs have been identified and dealt with long ago. He’s an experienced RV owner, so he likely knows what to look for in a pre-purchase walk through, so IMO if the coach passes his inspection, it’s thumbs up. Just my 2 cents’ worth.

My 2c echoes Mike's. I think comparing a 2005 coach to the quality issues of recent Thor offerings is comparing apples to oranges. Older coaches (like older autos) can be a good value, and they can be a nightmare. One thing that is easy to check is the date on the tires, and factor replacement costs in the equation.
You might find more specific feedback on wider forums like IRV2.
