Sale of Direct TV to Dish TV

Just got off the phone with Direct TV Service Tech in Ft Myers Fl. There will be no sale of DTV to Dish TV. For now we are stuck with ATT. DTV is for sale but don't expect that to happen anytime soon. 4th Tech coming to my house tomorrow to try to fix my problem. Supposedly LEAD Tech.

We've had DTV at home for close to 15 years. All we seem to get out of them is a yearly price increase. Last year I finally called them and told them that I was done unless they would reduce the price. I got $60/mo off for a year, but its coming up on the end of that year.

I'm really looking at cutting the cord and going with Playstation Vue along with a Plex account for OTA channels that PSV doesn't covert. I have to get a Silicon Dust Homerun tuner to allow Plex to access the local stations. With a Plex account, you set up a server on any computer in the house (or even a NAS) to function as a DVR. I played with this arrangement a bit before being able to threaten DTV (which is what it takes to get them to treat you as well as they treat new sign ups). I have Apple TV's on all the TV's in the house plus one for the RV, all of which support the PSV and Plex apps.

With the PSV and Plex I can get the same channels we now get for about $100/month less than we pay for DTV and $150/mo less once they jack my rates back up. I think when my current DTV discount expires, I'm done with them. I may just suspend the account so I don't immediately have to return the DTV boxes. I think they will let me suspend for as long as 6 months.

I'm happy with DTV at home. Wife gets Nessen for ball games and I get NBC and NBC/Sports for NASCAR. The problem happens with local stations twice a year when we go to and from MA to FL.

There's never anything worth watching on anyway!

We have Optimum as our cable package. We cancelled the house phone and cable, still use them for internet. We stream Direct TV Now / ATT now. It is a perfect set up. We have all of the same channels and features we did with cable at half the cost and it is totally mobile. I can watch TV and DVR wherever I am on any device.

For our rig, we just ordered the Togo (our hotspot did not give us enough gigs) to connect. We are going to use it at the house also to see if it is better than our internet connection. If it is we will either get a second Togo for the house or get a cellular antenna for the house and drop our Optimum internet connection.

I switch from Dish to Direct and back again every 2 years to get the new customer deals. This time to Direct the deal is for all of the 2 years. You’ll find they are pretty much the same company, at least where I am.

So what is their deal for new customers? A friend of mine has Dish and I've been using his second box but he is dropping everything at the end of the month. Like someone else said there is nothing worth watching. My wife watches Wheel of Fortune and a couple of the NCIS and thats it.

You can only watch just a couple of "Gilligan's Island" episodes: before your head explodes anyway...

DTV since AT&T took it over, has become IMO a real PITA to deal with. I have the SWM3, auto dish on the RV, so am pretty much locked into DTV, at least for the RV. When it works, it works well, but????? I had AT&T some years ago, and after they slammed me twice, and it took a year and a half to get it straightened out, I dumped them, but for the RV, because of the SWM3 dish, its not an option.
