Chevy Tachometer Red Zone

My RV has a Chevy 3500, 6.6L V8 engine. It doesn't have a tachometer dial on the panel, but I can go into the control dial and show current RPM. During my regular highway drive, it's around 2000-2300, occasional exceeds 3000 when I accelerate. The question is there is no red zone display like a regular car. I am afraid when I go uphill or tow a toad or carry too much, I may run over the red zone and destroy the engine.

Does anybody know what the starting point is for the red zone of my Chevy 3500, 6.6L V8 Engine that I should not go over?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

Electronic rev limiters negated this worry since about 1980, on some cars as early as 1964. Unless downshifting you cannot ever over rev a modern engine in an ordinary vehicle. It'll go to a defined limit and cutout, and hit again and cutout.

When you hear the kids rev their engines and hold it, and all that popping is going on, thats them bumping the rev limiter.

No worry,
Honest.

Frightening, odd, but no worry.

(If I had a chev 6.6 it'd sure have a blower on it)

Yep, what Duck said. The engine's puter won't let the engine over rev.
Last engine I had that you could over rev had a 4-barrel Carter carburetor and mechanical linkage that operated the throttle. It was an early 70's 383 V8 Plymouth Roadrunner.

Thumbs up Tachometer Red Zone

Oh, I have never heard of over rev limiter. Learn something new everyday. Thanks, no need to worry about it.

Thank you MCP, that link was a very good read. Yes, the red zone starts at 5600.

Even in this scenario the cars automatic transmission will not downshift to a gear that is over speed for that gear.

I've bent pushrods while hitting (staying on) the rev limiter in my old (1999) camaro ls1 but you won't be driving your RV the way I was driving, lol

LOL. I used to drive fast, but not any more. I am older and try to be wiser now.
