Shore power at home

Hello . I'm a newbie to rv's. I just purchased a 2017 Thor Quantum. An electrician friend offered to install a plug on the side of the house. I have a 50 amp plug oi n the rv so he installed a 50 amp 240 v receptacle. I'm thinking that's too many volts and it should be 120v. Am I correct or a 240v plug is actually ok?[emoji54]

Congratulations and welcome.

Does your Quantum have two A/C's? (Usually the reason for 50 amp RV)

Nevertheless: 50 amp 240V is correct. (240V is just two 120V legs 180 degrees out of phase, the RV uses each leg with a neutral to get two 120V circuits)

240v is correct for 50amp RV service, if installed with a double-pole 50amp main breaker, as the service is really TWO hot legs/wires of 120v service coming into your RV - your RVs breaker box will separate these into two 'sides' of power within your RV.

if the outlet he installed has the typical RV OUTLET you would normally plug into at an rv park or campground, changes are he's installed the right one and correctly.

many concerns involving incorrect RV OUTLET wiring is more for those who have a 30amp RV and want a 30amp outlet at their home - many 'normal' electricians confuse this with the same thing as a standard 240v household dryer's 30amp outlet, but they are NOT the same - RV 30amp service is only a single 120v hot leg/wire, not two like the ones for dryers.

If you've got a "50 amp RV": you're good to go!
And welcome aboard!

Thanks so much for the replies! I just wanted to be sure before he fried my system, lol
I don't have 2 Ac's but I do have a residential refrigerator and microwave if that makes a difference.

So long as your RV's plug is a 50 amp plug, you should be fine.
