Don't!

Tape off the outside furnace duct for the winter (using blue painter's tape to protect the finish).

Then,

When working inside a few weeks later,

Decide 32 degrees is too darn cold and turn the furnace on.

You get a loud POP when the burner lights and blows the tape off.

No harm done, thankfully!

Maybe next time take a piece of that blue tape and place it over the furnace control as a reminder!!!

Yup. Tape off controls that should not be used. I do this when working on anything.
