Go the other direction & you won't need chains.

If the weather is bad enough for chains don't think I want to be driving an RV!

Last time I put chains on a vehicle Nixon was still president!!!

Don't you love folks that feel the need to give a Smart A$$ answer and are no help at all?

An opinion, Cable chains are less expensive, easy to install, but if you need them they are not that great, and wear fast. I prefer standard old fashion snow chains. If you need then they will work. Some states, including Oregon and Colorado have chain laws that state they have to be carried on certain roads and certain time of the year.

Not familiar with Standard Jack, and can't find anything online about them.

I really wasn't trying to be a smart ass, was giving an honest answer. I really haven't used chains since early 70's and wouldn't drive an RV in weather bad enough to need them.

Very rarely, if ever will you see me giving anything but honest answers, not that kind of person. I have on occasion told people they can plant their lips on the big red X tattooed on my ass, but again, I'm being honest and sincere when I say that!!!

Wish I would have said that.... Seriously, motorhomes are not made for snow if you are at least planning for it. Bad enough with a car. Scary enough with a 4x4 as far as other drivers are concerned. Guess an unexpected snowstorm emergency would be a different issue and I'm trying not to be a smart alec.... We try to keep this forum nice, unlike Facebook....

Thank you. The Anderson Jack (as I understand it) is a plastic wedge that goes under the inside dually and when driven over raises the outside dually for ease of installing chains.
I take your advice that a regular set of chains are better and not that much more $ than the Z6. Remaining part of question: is there adequate clearance for regular chains
Thanks again

I'm sorry... I can appreciate their sense of humor!
But thanks for adding a useful answer to the thread!

This is a life threatening issue and the humor shocked me. We live in a four season mountainous resort community in Southern California. The are several on line stores that offer high quality chains sets for RV tire sizes and weights. You can read about each type and the different benefits. Get them!

In the western mountains of our country chains are required by law for all vehicles, chain control. Signs will be posted if chain control is in effect and at what level, R1 through R3. You must have chains that fit your tires with you. So be prepared and have them and know how to install them. If not turn around.

Every winter we get major storms, chain controls go up and there are those who believe they are a good enough driver etc. and proceed or straight out ignore cal trans check points etc. You are not going to make an off camber hairpin and will wreck. This usually involve other vehicles near you and up to 100 or vehicles can quickly be stranded with their passengers. This causes road closures and tracked rescue vehicles and a huge expense to you and the community. There is no humor present here. We call you flatlanders and we wonder what we’re you thinking.

The biggest culprits in order busses, trucks, RV and cars. Cal Trans is quicker now to close the roads into our community and restrict them to residents. We usually run out of fuel and food so the first ones up are tankers and food truck escorted by CHP. We enjoy the quiet and solitude a big storm brings. If your stuck then your rescue tow truck must have chains. Last year in our 5’ storm we had three big wreckers all stuck with the the vehicles they were trying to get unstuck. Highway 38 took 3 days to open to the public. People ignore Cal Trans check points, no guns, then the CHP gets in the act enforcing the law. If you wreck without chains it’s your fault.

If you wreck and are stick blocking the road a LEO can and will have your vehicle towed and impounded.

End of the snow chain inquiry

Thank you all for your enthusiastic responses and occasional relevance. Today I found the info I was looking for on "etrailer" , and purchased the Titan TC2317. Hopefully, the chains stay in the box, forever!
Thanks again

I lived in those mountains many years ago when the hordes didn't travel up on the weekends. I believe that that issue is a bit different from someone who intentionally crosses the country in a RV knowing that they will run into snow and need chains. By the way, Caltrans and the CHP can only restrict the state highway to require chains or carry them. They cannot legally "close" the state highway to only residents. If I am wrong, I would like to see a vehicle code that says I am. I have a lot of company it appears when it comes to those of us that have no intention of traveling in the snow with our RVs. Don't worry, you won't see me on Hwy 38 with my RV. You may see me in my vintage 4x4 driving wherever I want even though I am not a resident.

5yrs in Alaska. The best setup for year round, half snow half clear was the Blizzak ice and snow tires. That was on 4dr Jeeps. Just bought a 2017 Vegas. If they make a tire for that weight load I will go that direction.

I agree that the Blizzak is a great snow tire... I kind of doubt (having NOT done any research on them yet...) that they make one for our applications.

They also didn't give the greatest tread-life...
