Spare gas can.

I have seen gas cans mounted on Jerps and other off-road vehicles and want to get one for my Thor Axis 25.2. Does anyone have suggestions? Bob Trice

Not meaning to rain on your Parade...

Jeeps will often carry spare fuel because when they're running in low-range and wheel-deep mud: they will need every drop of fuel that they can carry...

How often do you think that you'll ever be that far from a source of fuel?

I wonder why you would need extra fuel too? But that’s for you to decide. Personally I would never run my motorhome that low that I would need a gas can. I have a 85 gallon tank, 5 or 10 gallons wouldn’t even make the gauge move. And being that low you couldn’t run the generator and the tank is so big any sloshing in the tank you might start sucking air.

Even with your 55 gallon tank 5 or 10 gallons at 6-7 gallons per mile is not gonna get you that much further. I would have stopped for gas way before I had 30-70 miles before empty. A Jeep carrying 10 gallons of gas will give him close 1/2 a tank of extra gas. Our Motorhomes, not so much.

But if you want to carry extra just go to harbor freight get one of the hitch racks they sell, they also have jerry cans and ratchet straps. Load them up and strap them down and your good to go.

I've used Rotopax fuel containers with great success...
They NEVER leak: regardless of the personal Hell that you put them through!

I get what your saying and appreciate your candor. I'm not in the habit of letting my tank get that low. However, preparing for a cross country trip, I'd like to have a small ins. plan in case I get low on fuel and need an extra 40 or 50 miles to a gas station. Thanks for the info and the life lesson!!

First you will need to determine where you want to mount the rack and go from there. There are many racks made for offroad vehicles. Some mount to the spare tire, others roof rack or bumper, but I think a receiver hitch mount may work best for you if you don't have a toad. I saw one on youtube where the guy made his own that mounted to his receiver hitch.

Don't plan to get that low on fuel either, but I carry a fuel can on long trips just in case I can't find an accessible fuel station for my gas RV.

I can't find one of those more than 3.5 gallons. I like the design but not much help, but a little is better than nothing right?

YOu should be able to find the room to carry 2 or 3 of them on your rig.
I still have the one that I used to carry on my Grizzly; when we figured on spending an EXTRA long day in the woods!

Guess I could mount them under the back someplace...

I just got a 5 gallon plastic can. I carry it in the bay or in the toad. EMPTY.

Knucklhead, think twice or even three times before you decide to carry gas inside or under your coach. When I carry extra fuel it is for my Yamaha generator or when I am out dry washing and then it is carried in a hitch mounted rack that is outside and sometimes in the toad but rarely. You may be better off using AAA or Good Sam. I get between 400 and 500 miles per tank and I rarely let it get below ¼ tank. That gives me at least 100 miles to find a station.

We have 2 plastic 5 gallon gas "cans" that we just bungee to the rear ladder when traveling and they are never filled unless they are in the toad being used. We found that even putting one in a storage compartment for an overnight stay left lingering gas fumes that could be bad.

No doubt: it's always best to store the fuel containers outside...
Having said that: we often will carry a REDA fuel container in the saddlebags of our Spyder. They only hold a gallon of fuel***; but they don't spit out any vapors at all!
I'm not sure what sizes they can be found in...

*** That extra gallon of fuel gives me just about a 275 mile range.

Yeah, saw a jeep one time carrying ...what looked like 5 gal. gas cans on the bumper. Looked close and I saw one was labeled 'Scotch' and the other was labeled 'Water'. Good labels those.
