Between Them and Hymer: it appears that Thor has their sights aimed right at the Class B marketplace...

Yup!

Who's next?

I think the sequence of events actually had EHG buying RoadTrek first... and then being swallowed-up by TMC

I'm sure the prospective Roadtrek owners can't wait for the product to be Thored.

They are keying themselves and setting up for the next generation "The Mellennials"...the ones that don't want to own anything or be responsible for their future...the ones that think everybody else should be held responsible for all their mistakes. If they actually DO buy anything...it's tiny houses, little this, little that and micro everything.

My "Millennial" has already promised to take care of me.
He'll have a chair in the basement, and it'll be outfitted with a couple pairs of handcuffs!

The joke will be on our kid: the house will be sold, and we'll be living in an apartment someplace warmer...
His house is sitting on 30 acres of some pretty nice farmland; just above Cobleskill, NY

So when I start to rot: the stench will be in HIS house...

Interesting tidbits here...unfortunately NY is among the highest percentage. Look at the increased numbers from 2005 to 2016. Tell me there's not a trend going on here??? Sadly, they are only covering about 38% of the cost to house them. This situation will be interesting as the years ahead unfold. The next chapter and coming soon to an "already paid for lifestyle near you"...college kids. Has this generation been given a name yet?

Gritz, you are correct, that is a big part of the problem, but it is multi factorial. Much like much of the rest of industry, Universities have way more high-cost administration that is raising college costs coupled with depressed wages for new grads coupled with exactly what you said, entitlement. I work in collegiate academics in Tampa, and prices for apartments around campus are close to 1k for brand new, 4BM and 4 bath suites- everyone needs their own bedroom. This gives people unrealistic expectations of what their standard of living when the get out of school. Education is also too lax in their standards for success. So when they get out the nicest place they can get is w/ their parents, and they are way too lax w/ them.

PEACE!! So true!! I trace it all back to the parents and lost values of our society. It is what it is and we'll deal with it and get through it...but, wow...it's taxing for those who have worked hard, fallen on our own and got back up and made something of it. There are times I'm so glad to be the ripe old age that I am.

RoadTrek makes van campers. There’s a lot to discuss.

How about that RoadTrek mostly builds on RAM ProMaster and Mercedes Sprinter. The RoadTrek CEO a few years ago stated that van camper sales went in the toilet as costs climbed when Dodge got out of “cheaper” vans. Sprinter Euro vans (with high roof and great fuel economy) that replaced the old Dodge were an improvement, but too expensive for their size to grow van market.

He then said that the ProMaster, which cost a lot less than a diesel Sprinter, afforded them the option to return Class B van campers closer to their roots. After Hymer purchased RoadTrek, their combined sales in North America were about 3X that of Thor’s Airstream Class Bs.

Mercedes will be introducing cheaper vans with gasoline engines shortly, but is that enough choices? They’re still expensive. Ford Transits aren’t doing well, and ProMaster design is getting old. In what direction will Thor go?
