Took my racing Ford Focus ST (only comes in manual) removed the back seat and now flat tow Focus with the bikes comfortably in the back

We flattow either a 2015 Explorer or a 2014 Focus (automatic) behind our 2017 Challenger. No issues with either . Installed my own base plates in both of them and use a ReadyBrute towbar/brake system. Works great

We tow a 2013 Honda CRV, which has an automatic transmission, all 4 wheels down using a Blue Ox tow bar. The only mods were the installation of the baseplate and extra taillights in the rear enclosure. Towing and hookup is easy. To date we have logged 28k miles with no issues.

Wouldn't be presumptuous to say it's the best, but I went with the Demco Commander, based on the features and cost. And on this review:
