I have an automatic four door four wheel drive Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Put transfer case in neutral off you go no problems to worry about.

I am on my fourth jeep as a toad. All I have had to do is install a base plate to hook my tow bar to, lighting hook up and wiring for the brakes. I put the four wheel drive in netrual and the transmission in park. Simple! Best tow vehicle there is in my opinion.

Installed base plate myself.
Added stay n play duo brake system, I just flip a switch and l am good to go
Hopkins lighting, and battery isolator.
Working very well.
The manual will set you free

You MUST check your manual and probably Jeep as there are several models and the towing requirements are ALL different. My old 1999 Cherokee you put the transfer case in neutral , unlocked the steering and you were ready to go. Some are more complicated and some CAN'T be towed.

Towing a Jeep

Read your manual, it gives you detailed instructions. We flat tow our Grand Cherokee & it’s automatic.

I bought my Quantem 1200 miles from home.
I set up my wrangler before I left. Everything worked great. The hardest part is when I called my Jeep dealer and asked about the steering wheel lock. (I guess I missed that part in the manual) no lock.
He told me jeeps are made to tow. Transfer case in neutral put it in park and lock it up and drive away.
3-4 minute max to hook up or unhook.

I tow a 2018 JLU, No problem at all. I built a front hitch that is bolted with the front bumper. Haven't done the harness yet. Have been using lights on a bar that goes into the Jeep hitch plugged into the motorhome. Brake Buddy for brakes. Auto trans in park, transfer case in neutral.

Remco.com is the best resource I've found. Put in year make model etc and it tells you what modifications may need to be done to make it flat towable, it also tells you if it required a tow dolly or trailer.

I got the NSA RV Products (RB-9050) Ready Brute Elite Tow Bar because I didn't want to mess with an external braking system like the Blue Ox BRK2012 Patriot Brake. I also got the Roadmaster 521448-5 Jeep Wrangler Tow Bar Bracket Kit (2010-2014). I liked this baseplate because it worked with the existing holes in your jeep versus the Blue Ox baseplate wanted to you drill holes in your frame. If I could do it all over again, I just would have replace the front bumper with a bumper with d ringer which you can find on Amazon for about $200.

Also, carry long jumper cables and a spare battery. Towing for a long time is going to eventually wear out your battery and you are going to be stuck somewhere with a dead jeep. First battery problem, we solved with the long jumper cables. Eventually, had to swap out the battery after two years.

Hi, we were towing a2011 Jeep Liberty with auto transmission. Had blue ox tow bar and Ready Brake supplemental brake system with emergency brake a way. The Jeep is easy. Hook to MH AS INSTRUCTED IN BLUE OX DIRECTIONS. There is a small button on the shifter you push to disengage both front and rear axles. Basically everything is in neutral. Hook up wiring for lights and we were good to go. Have since went a different direction with MH toad. I have the Ready Brake system listed in Thor Classifieds on this sight if you are interested. Search for listing by Brakeman48. I will consider a best offer. Happy camping!!

You should either check with the owners manual or a dealership. Not all jeeps can be towed on all four wheels. Some need drive axels removed and or transmission coolers installed.

The only thing I'd add to hookup is a quick signal, running light, brake light check.
Once you've done this a few times it's less than 5 minutes for connect or disconnect. Quick, easy, efficient!

Speaking of a new Wrangler- "all you do is put it in neutral.... Not true. These absolutely can easily be flat towed with the right 4WD set up. Speaking now only for the "part time" models- the owners' manual has a specific section with specific instructions for "before towing" and one for "after towing" sequence. Basically transfer case in neutral, turn engine OFF FIRST, then shift transmission into PARK or manual transmission in REVERSE (not absolutely positive about the manual)…. but you get my point. I copied the instructions onto a separate/smaller/laminated sheet that I am keeping in the glove compartment because failure to follow these instructions will cause damage. Pretty much like everything else mechanical, right?

We flat tow a wrangler julr and have no issues. We use the Patriot 2 brake system. It is fairly easy to set up.

Totally agree...go online and download all the owners manuals for all the vehicles you are thinking about using. We looked at the Wrangler but went with the Cherokee because it is more comfortable for our old bodies.
You might want to research the tow bars as well. Some are more forgiving than others when unhooking on less than level pavements. This is a huge factor that we overlooked.

Second that... we have laminated cards also that walk us through the step by step hooking and unhooking process as well. It's immensely helpful. We keep them right in the pouch behind the driver's seat.

A couple of items that rarely get mentioned when towing a Jeep concern so me of the available options Jeep offers. This is based on our 2019 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk.

First is QuadraLift Suspension. When towing the Entry/Exit feature of the suspension must be off and the suspension must ne at normal ride height.

Second is forward collision avoidance. I use a RoadMaster Sterling towbar with the crossbar. When I install the crossbar I have to make sure the foreword collision avoidance is off or the brakes will lock and the jeep cannot be positioned for connecting to the towbar. The forward collision avoidance has also engaged when positioning the Jeep prior to connecting the crossbar.

Bottom line, if you buy a Jeep to use as a TOAD know how the options impact the towing and the setup and tear down process.

I printed the towing procedures from the owner's manual and have them available in the glove box.
