Used vs New RV

I know this idea has been tossed around however I would like to know is it best to purchase an RV new are used. I am leaning towards used do to the fact that maybe the previous owner has worked most of the bugs out. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I was leaning new but ran into a great used w/1600 miles and saved us 15000 to 18000 so we went used. I like buying new stuff but the deal was to good to pass. In the RV, boat and motorcycle industry the value drops so fast after they leave the lot that it is worth looking for used. People buy these items with good intentions of using them but then they find out they don't have time or there is a life changing incident that keeps them from using them. With all that said it is a personal choice but look around you may stumble over something that fits your needs and it is a great buy.

Thanks KNMIB

Those are excellent points. I heard of so many issues with the new RV perhaps you can purchase used and the RV will be tested and can save you time and money.

I have bought two units slightly used and am pleased with both. If you are one that can do small repairs, not having to take back to dealer, then used is a great way to go. Just my 2 cents!

Just a thought on either used or new purchase from Camping World. While many on this Forum and elsewhere have documented some problems with Camping World we have had good experience so far with CW. (We have no relationship with CW other than purchase)
Having said that; there be a purchase leverage opportunity in the short term with CW. It’s our understanding that currently all CW locations are being encouraged to reduce inventory. This is driven by the CW corporate goal of positioning CW for an IPO later this year.
So it you are buying new according to your exact specifications to Thor this is very attractive to CW since they can pass on a unit without increasing their inventory and the purchase does not count on their Thor unit allocation. Alternatively, if you find a unit on their lot which fits your needs, you may be able to negotiate quite aggressively knowing they are motivated to reduce inventory in the short term.
(About 6 weeks ago we actually used a sealed bidding process and communication to select our supply dealer from 7 contacted and we considered delivery, warranty work and service work. We were able to purchase new at 34% off MSRP)
I hope this is useful.
Best Regards, James

Good information. Is CW encouraged to reduce used RVs also.

Correction, I should have been clearer : Just a thought on either used or new RV purchase from Camping World. While many on this Forum and elsewhere have documented some problems with Camping World we have had good experience so far with CW. (We have no relationship with CW other than purchase)

So it you are buying a new RV according to your exact specifications to Thor this could be very attractive to CW since they can pass on such a factory order unit without increasing their RV inventory and I believe such a purchase does not count on their Thor unit allocation either. Alternatively, if you find an RV on their lot which fits your needs, you may be able to negotiate quite aggressively knowing they are potentially motivated to reduce inventory in the short term.

I hope this is useful. Just my thoughts ... not coming from anyone at CW.
Best Regards, James

Used may offer a floorplan or features (or lack thereof) that are no longer available in similar new units.
