Vegas 25.2 AC information

Hello all,
I have a question regarding the AC on my rig. Does the generator have to be on for the AC to work? I was told when we bought it that it had to run for AC to work as it would trip the circuit breaker, which I did try and it did. Is there something that could be done to use shore power to power the AC? Thanks.

Im not sure on the Vegas, but it would be odd to not have the AC run off of the generator or shore power on basically any rig. unless the generator is less than wattage it should be or your trying to power 2 ac's from it.

The rig just has one AC. I do not know if there should be some kind of switch or inverter. Possibly because the RV runs on 30 amp?

It certainly should work on shore power with your rig...
What circuit breaker tripped?
What else was on? (Don’t forget hidden loads like converter and hot water heater if set to electric.)
You don’t have unlimited power on 30A rig... but unless 3 or more major loads are on, it should work fine on shore power.

the breaker outside where we plug in the power trips. We only had tv and water heater. We are new to this since May so we are unsure what the problem is.

Your AC works on gen or shore power. It is a 110v system. Are you plugged in at a campground or at home?

We were plugged in at a campsite. I am home right now and have it plugged but I'm afraid to try it and trip the breaker, not that it's a big problem. Just not sure what I need to do.

That is incorrect information. There are thousands of RVs, many without a generator, that run the same size or larger AC on 30 amp shore power without a problem. Did you buy your Vegas used? Is this what the previous owner told you?

We bought it used at an rv lot where they rent RV's. The salesman told us this when we bought it.

What he should have told you is "this unit has a defect". You should be getting some good troubleshooting advice from the folks here shortly. I will need to scratch my head and think a bit before I throw advice out on this one.

Of course he did! How do you know when a salesman is lying?

Do you have a 30 amp RV receptacle at home? I would not run the AC using an adapter to plug into a regular 120 VAC 15/20 amp receptacle.

Assuming you are plugged into at least a 30A service at home (As 16ACE27 said - I wouldn't try it on a 15a or 20a circuit - might work on 20 with nothing else and a heavy cord (not an orange extension)... but..

Turn off everything else big (WH specifically) - and try the AC alone...
With it running (assuming it does) try during the WH back to electric.

Not sure about the rooftop units - but residential ACs have a LARGE capacitor to help start the compressor... without that - it can try to draw 100A or more.... Just had to replace that last month on sticks/bricks home... But that would trip out the RV main or the genny breaker too...

yes, help us to understand by telling us EXACTLY how you are 'plugged in'... as that statement can mean many different things...

are you plugged into a working 30amp RV outlet?

are you only plugged into a regular HOUSEHOLD type outlet?

what 'other' things do you have 'ON' when you plug in?

where is this 'breaker' that is tripping? your home's main panel?
What 'SIZE' breaker is this?

vegas 24.2 ac problem

I use my ac all the time on 20 amp receptacle. I have never had a problem even when the frig. is on elect. It will not work on 15 amp.

Vegas 24.2 ac problem

I had same issue with my Vegas 24.1. Can it’s ac run on gas as well as generator?

Same here. 4 rv’s and never a problem. Microwave would probably overload it but fridge and AC never a problem.

Air conditioners never run on "gas".

For the OP - Running the electric element on your water heater and the Air Conditioner on a hot day with the other minor AC loads such as the Fridge and Converter charging your battery can put you at the 30 amp limit. It's better to run you water heater on gas and not electric in this situation.

FYI. AC = electric. A/C = air conditioning. A/C and microwave will work together on Gen or shore power 30 amp. Put Water Heater on GAS and all will be good. If at home on a 15/20 amp circuit, A/C and lights only. Use volt meter to check campground voltage. Chances are it will be low. This will reduse your AC availability.
