Wife with sensitive nose
What’s the best way to clean out the black tank? I have a built in rinse out tap, but it doesn’t seem to work as well as emptying the tank then putting a garden hose right into the toilet, filling the tank at least twice and emptying, when I then open the dump valve, in that way, pretty much everything comes out, and I end up with just clear water. My wife can’t stand any smell in the RV. So even afterwards I’ll put in a gallon or two of water then some additive. What do you all do to prevent bad smells?

We use the enzyme based additives and thoroughly rinse out the black tank whenever I have a full hookup site (I had a tornado (Amazon) installed to flush out the tank as our unit doesn't have any way to flush from the factory).

deodorizing
Please
Maybe buying a deodorizing RV product would help. Tank Blaster is one option ( https://www.campingworld.com/thetfor...RoCTfYQAvD_BwE) but there are many other choices. Some choices deodorize and "sanitize" the black tank if you follow the instructions.

Lay off the bean burritos, and leave a dead skunk about 15 sites away from yours: it'll distract her!
Oh! Use some of what Jamie suggested also!

My wife can smell a fart in a hurricane. I told her it's like going to the bathroom. Nothing you can do about it but it won't last but for a few minutes.

Check to see if your bowl holds water. If it does then fill the bottom with a slight bit of water and it will keep the smells in the tank. If not, try cleaning the seal with a toilet brush or something. I find my seal gets plugged with toilet paper and it leaks. It also helps to let the valve snap shut when flushing. There is also a one way vent under my sink that needs to be replaced periodically. Perhaps someone with a better memory than mine can post the name of the valve. I buy mine from Amazon for less than $20. One more thing to check, make sure the P-Trap for your bathroom sink has water in it by running a couple of cups of water.

This is the valve I purchased. One for the black tank under the sink and one for the grey valve under the galley sink.

There is a PVC pipe that the old one is screwed on to, unscrew the old one and the new one came with an adapter to fit a couple pipe sizes and I think I used the adapter. When you look under your sink there should be a drain pipe that goes up with the vent attached at the top. Mine had gotten gunk in it and the valve wasn't working allowing odors to enter the RV. It was worse when we had the top vent or front windows open while underway. You rig is different than mine so vents may be in another place or I guess even not there at all.
Good luck!

If you don't keep a negative pressure on your black tank it will surely smell. You may want to put a different cap on your vent and see if that will help. The below cap is the one I have and works good.
