Yellowstone in December/January

My son and his family and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone for the last week in December and 1st week in January. I have A 35 FT Hurricane and live in S.C. Has anyone done this before? What are the cons for camping there in the winter? Are there any special equipment needs?

Thanks for your help.

I went to Yellowstone in May several years ago and had to wait for the snow plow to clear the road from the west entrance before we could get in. Friends left Yellowstone in August after getting snowed in, They only keep part of the road open and one RV park open in the winter, I believe. Most of the pictures I have seen are snowmobiles.

I know the roads are closed and the only way in is by snowmobile or one of the snowcat tours.

Keep your rig winterized. I doubt the Hurricane is 4 season enough to conquer keeping water in liquid state unless the weather is uncommonly warm (unlikely). Passes could require chains for travel. Plan for propane refills.

Yellowstone is great fun in the winter ... but Dec/Jan, in an RV, is not something this former area resident would consider

We are going in 2 weeks. Just checked the weather and they are still having night time temps in the mid to upper 30's and daytime highs in the mid 70's. Dec/Jan is frozen time in Yellowstone.

I have snowmobiled in Yellowstone before. The roads through the park open to snowmobiles and snow coach tours in mid December. The weather starts turning pretty rough in November. I can't imagine driving a MH on the roads out there let alone trying to camp in one during in the winter. If you were able to get in to do it, you may not get out until late spring.

Mammoth campground at the north entrance is supposedly open all winter but it has no hookups but it is close to the town. Fishing Bridge is the only campground with any hookups, but it is closed for renovations until 2020 and I do not believe it is open in the winter. Yellowstone is at 6- 8000’ so you are in brutal winter conditions.

It sounds like great weather for ice cubes and penguins...
