OK, I will take one for the team coming in a little late... we use CoPilot for RV on our iPhones and iPads. It has all of the same features that the Garmin and Magellan RV specific units do (camping POIs, height and weight restrictions, propane restrictions, etc.) at a fraction of the cost. It has versions for both iOS and Android.

That would be a great backup for the Garmin 770. Does it have 100% "hands free voice command" feature or do you have to control it with screen taps? Can you speak an address destination to it or do you have to type it in? Lots of states...including Georgia as of 7/1/18, have laws now banning even touching your phone while driving.

I loved our Garvin until I found out what LTM really means. It expires if you don’t manually update your subscription annually. Meaning,if you don’t, no more LTM updates. Like many we keep ours in the MH and only think about updating it occasionally. They apparently send a 10 day notice to your Garvin but if you don’t happen to be using your vehicle you’re out of luck. I missed updating by a month or so and learned LTM no longer applied. Just make sure you update at least once a year!

I don't know about 100% hands-free (is anything REALLY?) but it does allow the use of Siri to answer questions and open other apps, etc. You can speak the address or POI you are looking for, but the menu system is such that you do it backwards (city/state, then road then number) but once you are used to it, it works.

I use it on my iPad and also have the TireMinder TPMS app and DashCommand OBD II apps running as well. Siri lets me switch between them and the TireMinder app alerts to Notifications on any issues. One screen for multiple apps... better than 3 or 4 separate devices to try to watch.

As to the laws and "no touching" I can't touch my phone but I can touch the Axxera and change the radio station... you just can't legislate common sense. Where will it end?

I have 4 different Garmin GPSs in my vehicles which rarely get updated. Maybe every 2 or 3 years. Never had the experience of being "locked out" of upgrading my LM GPS. Any documentation on their website that supports your experience?

I'll keep my Garmin. I've got a custom mount for the dash that places it in easy viewing and reach without looking down away from the windshield.

Our new RV has a Garmin-based GPS built into the radio up front...

I'm not convinced; but I'm willing to give it a try...

At least the radio is a Kenwood!

We had a Rand Mcnally 7725 for about 3 years. It had been acting a little wonky for the last 3 months of use - then it finally quit. Tried several models and then landed on the Rand Mcnally OverDryve™ 7 RV. The battery life is super, it connects to wifi and gives me look ahead info, updates itself fairly often, built in look ahead camera and has a quick connect magnetic mount. Even better it functions as an Android tablet. So far - great.

They say they can cancel service anytime, and if they determine unit out of service, meaning a couple things, like no updating for 24 months, memory capacity, etc.
They also state LMT cannot be transferred to another device, or person.
Be aware buying pre-owned units.

Does anybody have an opinion on which of these Garmins are better?
The 770 LMT-S (for RV) or the 770 LMT HD (for semi-trucks)?
Other than one has RV campground finding, the other truck stops and camera adaptability.

Also, does anybody swear by their dashcam?
We originally thought about a Garmin Nuvi LMT HD because it has the dashcam, only to discover now, if you want the vehicle size and weight road warnings, it appears not with the Nuvi, the others I inquire about do not have a dash cam.

The trucker one you can add a back up camera, or I imagine a dash cam, but there goes an added expense, besides our Thor Outlaw already has the back up camera and turning cameras!
With both being voice activated, the LMTHD and a Garmin's dash cam, that could get conflicting.
Would that work?

We want a good gps, and a dashboard camera.

I love our Yi Ultra Dashcam. I bought it more for complementing the vacation photos with some road video/screenshots than for CYA in an accident but it will help there too. (https://www.yitechnology.com/yi-ultra-dash-camera )

I even have some sample footage from our Axis (from driving around a campground):

Keep your dashcam and GPS as individual units. I have the RV-770 and the Garmin VIRB-XE rechargeable dashcam. I like them as separate units so I can carry the VIRB with me in the Jeep while touring around, use it as a still shot camera/video recorder or place it anywhere as a motion activated monitor. They all mostly do the same thing but small is better for me. The coach already has the backup and rear-view features built in.

to each their own. All when and good if the in-dash is a decent setup. The axxera radio in mine is a cheap piece of crap. I'd also rather have one less thing to take down and set up every time I drive. I tried the McNally top of the line and hated the added unit to mess with, along with the clutter, and wasn't to impress for the money. Outside the RV I use a GoPro Hero 7 which is the way to go for video and still shots. Very compact, intuitive, 4K with a lot of auto features for publishing your contents. Whatever works and whatever your budget.

So the time period is 24 months, not annually. I probably fall withing the 24 month experience.

Thor didn't build my truck cab...Ford did. I don't have the in-dash "piece of crap"...I have the Ford Sync System which works great for navigation, apps, phone, etc.. GPS and dashcam stay in place unless I take dashcam with me in toad. It's quite enjoyable to have the option. While the Sync System Navigation is top of the line, the Garmin is more RV specific. One Is None...Two Is One.
