Big Bend

Headed to Big Band NP right after Thanksgiving. We'll be there 4 days. Anyone have experiences to share from there?
Thanks

We like to stay 2 weeks. Favorite CG is Cottonwood but it is no generators allowed or idling vehicle engine to charge batteries. Big Bend has a per day limit on water, think it is 5.
There is a small CG with power at Grand Village, parking is between painted lines. The NP CG at Grand Village has areas where generators can be run, these sites are dirt with picnic table.
Nice hikes in the Chisos Basin area but the CG is very poor. The lodge there is the only restaurant.
Plan a trip into Mexico, you will need your passport. When you cross over, ride a burro, walk or they may have a vehicle to run you into town, Boquillas.
Plenty of back country camping that the Vegas will fit into but look first.
We always take day trips in the Jeep on the back roads, really like the river road.
Hwy 170 outside the park is a nice scenic drive along the Rio Grande.

Been there many times
if you have a toad vehicle ,a day trip up to the Chisos basin is a must do. This the beginning of the busy season for Big Bend. Many miles of Travel roads to explore.

Stayed last winter(January) in the Rio Grande Village Campground where you can run a generator during specific hours. As mentioned previously take a day trip across to Mexico. It is quite the experience. Where else can you cross out of the US into Mexico by a row boat? Our choice was horses for the ride into town. Not much to see in the town, but a good experience. Ate lunch at one of the two restaurants, and it was good. On our previous stay we stayed with full hookups at the Rio Grande Village, but it is basically just a paved parking lot where you back in.

The night skies in Big Bend will blow you away. It is the darkest skies I have encountered in my life.

Enjoy
