Colorado parks

Looking for suggestions on places to stay in Colorado. Thinking about gettin out of the Texas heat for a week. There’s so many Colorado parks I’m a little overwhelmed. I’ve had good experiences with state parks in Texas, Arkansas, & Louisiana. Our 23TR will be our only way to get around, no towed.
Thanks Hugh

If you are retired military, or know a military member, I highly recommend Peregrine Pines FamCamp on the US Air Force Academy. Over 100 campsites with full hookups. It's in the trees, and there is lots to do around Colorado Springs. If you are not military, you can get a military member (active/retiree) to sponsor you in for up to 2 weeks.

I've enjoyed Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Nice, quiet, gated in a good location.

Ridgeway State Park in Ridgeway. 10 miles west to Ouray and onto the magnificent San Juan Mtns, or head south to the Dallas Divide and then Telluride.

Most magnificent mountain scenery in the US. to wit: Take a few Jeep tours of the area, Yankee Boy Basin, Animas Forks Ghost Town, being reconstructed, California Pass, Hurricane Pass, Black Bear Road, Imogene Pass.

Ouray also has some private RV parks. Pronounced You Ray.

South out of Ouray is Red Mountain Pass, then down to Silverton, And south of there is Durango.

Ride the DSNGRR Durango Silverton Narrow Guage Rail Road (Google it), most scenic ride in the US. Back to Durango.

Then West to Mesa Verde NP, North back up the Million Dollar highway, to Telluride, and then back to Ridgeway or Ouray.

Where ever you go be sure to make reservations, especially for weekends.
This time of the year in and around Estes Park, Denver, Colorado Springs, Durango, etc. will be crowded.

Thanks for all the information & suggestions. Unfortunately everyplace I’d like to visit is booked up. Might give it another go after school starts.

Check for the last week of August. School will be starting for some.

After Labor Day weekend, there will be plenty of availability.
