Slid Topper Problem

The rear of our slide topper on the driver side was flapping in the wind yesterday as we were driving into a 25 mile an hour head wind that was hitting us from the front and driver side of the rig. After stopping, we observe the following condition of the slide topper. With the slide in, the front part of the topper is wound tightly but the rear has some slack . See two pictures of topper with slide in. With the slide out, the front part of the topper is tight but wrinkled and twisted. The rear part of the topper is smooth but has some slack in it. See two pictures with slide in. The pictures were taken after we had moved the slide in and out a couple of times. What can we do to make the slide topper roll in evenly and tightly? Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to add pictures using my tablet.

The slide toppers work kind of like a window blind on a spring roller. I have found on occasion mine does not roll up properly as the slide retracts. I found using a broom a gentle whack on the roller (when not recoiling) as the slide is moves in works magic. I can hear the spring spin and quickly tighten up the awning.

I had the exact same issue while heading down the highway. Now I always watch as the slide retracts.

Hope this helps.

We had the same issue and had to take the brackets off on each end and reset the springs. It isn't a tough process but is best done with two people (one to actually spin the roller and the other to make sure the other end stays in place and winds correctly.)
