Fort Wilderness Disney

Just got back from Fort Wilderness at Disney in Orlando. Except for a checking in problem we had, it is a very well maintained campground. They have an internal bus system to get you around the campground. Free water taxi to Disney World and other resort areas. Free busing to all other Disney attractions. We decided not to tow our car. We didn't need it. The campground is more golf cart friendly than cars anyway.

We took a water taxi to the Contemporary Hotel, then jumped on the monorail and got off and looked at other hotels. A lot of shopping for the wife and resturaunts. Went to Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. All free transportation.

Would highly recommend.

WDW is a "Magical place"...
They always seem to be looking for the best way to treat their visitors... and then they go a step better!
Fort Wilderness Campground is on our Bucket List for sure!

We liked to stay at the Wilderness Lodge. It was just a shot walk over to the Campground...
Disney's transportation system is just amazing: there are buses, boats, and monorails that can get you anywhere in the Park with less hassle than driving yourself!

Cool

Been there many times, and always had great experiences. Coincidentally, just this morning we made reservations for there for next month. °O°

Now I just have to get mentally and physically prepared for the strenuous lengthy drive from home to there. All seventeen miles of it. And no rest areas along the way.

Love to go but when my wife looked for reservations it was booked forever. How long did you all have to book in advance?

17 miles is taunting!! I hope there's a Walmart along the way you can spend a couple nights. Call us...we'll come drive you if need be. Good luck!! And, yes...Disney is the perfect example of what an unlimited budget can produce. "People that think money can't buy happiness just don't know where to shop!!"

This was an out-of-the-blue idea, and when we checked they had openings. Reservation is for the week after next.

Interestingly, there are THREE Walmarts along the way.

Guess I should leave now....

I have to drive 13.5 miles to get to the nearest decent-sized Town.
And it doesn't even have a Walmart!
Pack snacks for your trip, and plan frequent rest stops.
Perhaps every four or five miles!

I made my reservation in March for last week. Calling this weekend to see if I can get a spot in December 2020.

I suspect you'll be staying at WallyWorld. Fort Wilderness starts at $60/night for a popup/tent site, and higher during peak periods. Then there's different tiers of full hookup sites running anywhere from about $70/night to $200+/night, depending on dates. They have sites as long as 60 feet, but no pull-thrus.

Stayed there many times, last waz September. First class and very dog friendly. Dog gets excited when we pull into check in.

Just made reservations for Jan and March. Is 2 hour ride from my North house.

Is not cheap but everything is nice enough that the premium is worth it. Wish my legs were not such a restriction.

Silver Annual resident pass a good value for us. I expect we will visit parks 20 to 25 times during current pass life. We stay away from weekends when possible.

It might all be pricey; but it's tough to argue that you're not getting what you're paying for!

We're leaving for Tampa in the Vegas on 15 Feb. We'll be staying at Macdill AFB in Tampa. On Easter Sunday we check into Fort Wilderness for a week. Will be heading back to PA last week in Apr.

That is why there are BLM campsites, and KOA's, and State Parks, and State Forests, and Wally World's, and Ft Wilderness, and Normandy Farms, and...

If you think its too expensive: don't go.

Correctomundo! We lived in Orlando and went 1 time in the 80s and 1 time in the 90s (once for each kid) but that was before they got really greedy and started their class separation scheme by selling head of line passes for even more money. There are waaaaaay better places to spend your entertainment dollars. Seaworld used to be a staple but we haven't been there in over 20 years so I really don't know how much bang you get for your buck there anymore.

And they've expanded their money-grubbing into their cruises as well. Just compare the cost of comparable Disney cruises to Carnival or Royal Caribbean - crazy money for the same cruise but there are plenty of lemmings that have no regrets putting those vacations on their 25% interest rate credit cards.
