Free parks/overnight stops you've stayed at

As mentioned in this thread: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f28...ical-5757.html I'll start a "places you've stayed at for free" thread.

So here is a suggested format (with the only "free" place we've stayed at):

Name: Relatives driveway
Location: Residential area where they live
Time limit: I'm sure they'd kick us out if we stayed too long!
Hookups available: None
Picture: (I did have one but don't have access to it at the moment)

Please include any/all relevant details.

On 2nd thought: We have overnighted at a few rest areas. The nicest ones of which (OH Turnpike service plaza's) charge if you stay in the RV area; free if you park with the trucks (we've done both). (I have a pic of these stops..will post pics later.)

Sorry, I'll break from the format since this is more of a summary to date

We have stayed at multiple Cracker Barrels along I-10 between N FL and San Antonio

2 or 3 different truck stops in their auto lot side, along the I-10 corridor

A walmart/bass pro/costco lot in Tallahassee for a couple nights during a hurricane evaculation

and I think that's the only free public places we've been so far....

Looking forward to hopefully find some BLM lands on our trip to the Grand Canyon next summer.

Sorry no format

Only two places come to mind -- Interstate Rest Areas and college campus for football games.

Between last year and this year we stayed at designated overnight parking during football weekends about half a dozen times. It's just a parking lot with no hookups.

We travel between Florida and Texas a lot, and also to DC area from Florida or Texas. Over the years we've stayed in many Interstate Rest Areas without any issues.

Florida and Mississippi have security guards at night -- not that I feel we need them but it's nice to have. Mississippi rest areas (at welcome centers at least) on I-10 have the advantage of having free dump stations.

One great advantage we have is that by being only 20-feet long, we park amongst all the cars instead of RVs and Trucks. I normally pull through past the restrooms so as not to take those valuable spaces for other travelers in cars/SUVs, and to minimize noise of car doors.

Name: Magnolia Beach
Location: South Texas close to Port Lavaca
Time limit: None that we heard of
Hookups available: None

You can park any where you wish and as close to the water as you want. Fishing wasn't to bad and can have fires on the beach. No leash law for dog.
