Love the Royal Gorge area!!! I used to take annual trips in the spring to go whitewater rafting, absolutely love it and the beautiful scenery that goes with it! Don't know if it's still true, the suspension bridge used to be the highest in the world, long way down to the river below! Glad you had a good time there, I'm anxious to go back again!!!

Wish you continued safe travels!!!

Colorado Comments:

I basically have followed Why 50 from west to east.

Monument RV Park Fruita/Grand Junction (Rate 9 of 10) Good location and Park. I had my RV serviced in Grand Junction. Colorado Monument and the road to Gateway for the Colorado Car Museum are beautiful. I fell in love with the town of Palisade.

Montrose KOA (Rate 8 of 10). Black Canyon of the Gunnison is by fr the most beautiful gorge I have ever seen. Better than the Royal Gorge. Also the Museum of the Mountains West is worth the trip.

Mountain View RV Resort (Rate 8 of 10) This is close to the Royal Gorge about 7 miles out of Cañon City. Lots to do

Pueblo KOA (Rate 6 of 10). Sites are on top of each other and the freeway noise is constant. This is where I failed. I forgot about July 4th and the Pikes Peak Crawl. There are no RV spots in Colorado Springs. So I am 3o miles south in Pueblo for about 2 weeks. I am heading back north on Why 25 to Fort Collins.

Thanks for the information, Gerry...

Like I said, we have just taken off with an SUV packed with tents for years, with no destinations planned, and loved it..

Just not quite sure how to do this with an RV (yet)

Even one that is only four foot longer than our SUV

I understand if you open the photo in a program like MS Paint first, they won't rotate. It worked for me.

A few days ago, I celebrated 3 months on the road. This country is so beautiful. I am currently in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I've visited Mt Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial. If you get here, make sure to drive Iron Mountain Road. Today I had lunch in Sturgis (2 weeks before the motorcycles arrive). Tomorrow I'm traveling to Deadwood.

Yeah love the Black Hills.

Don't forget to check out the Badlands, and Wall Drug (oh and the Corn Palace if you're going that way).

Minuteman Missile Site is another great stop, right outside the Badlands.

Gerry....enjoy Deadwood and while in that area go to TaTanka the Buffalo memorial created by Kevin Costner and group. Very interesting and enlightening.

here is link to the site:

Tatanka: Story of The Bison - Home

If you have not done so...south of Rushmore is Custer State Park...home to over 1000 Buffalo in the wild....beautiful drive !

Gerry...I know someone else responded...but, thought I would add what I do...I simply drop my photos on the desktop of my laptop...then, when I want to place them in the browser of the forum, it is a simple process.

I visited the main site and the automated launch site. Unfortunately, the control center guided tour was full through the middle of August.

My first down time! My toad, a 2006 Honda Element is at the shop. I pulled into the campground in Mitchell, SD (home of the world famous Corn Palace) and disconnected the toad from my RV. For several days, I have been hearing a high pitched whine from the engine. And, viola! The battery not charging idiot light came on when I started the engine. I called a tow truck and away it went. I'm waiting to hear if it is as simple as a new/rebuilt alternator or whatever!

Tough break on the tour being booked. Hope the repairs aren't anything serious.

I need a new alternator. With towing, parts, and labor. About $600.

OUCH
