Mama Gerties Hideaway Campground

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone has stayed at Mama Gerties Campground in Asheville NC. Looks interesting on the web. I am looking for a place to stay in that area for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your help.

Rich

I drove through there a while back...gorgeous facility with views to die for if you're just wanting to be in the "area" of Asheville. I ended up staying at Bear Creek for a week (with previous 39' TT) as it was so convenient to Asheville...right off the freeway, minutes from everything and quiet. My daughter was in hospital for a few days so I needed to be close to downtown. Bear Creek is an older park and sites are a bit tight but clean. They have a lower section with bigger sites but the upper section was my choice. I would imagine, this time of year, Gertie's will have the cold wind howling.

MG's is a fine place, especially if you are looking for the 'views' from the mountain top premium sites... but don't get your hope up that any of those are available - they usually aren't... otherwise, the park is another rv park.

You could also try the other 'mountain top' option - Campfire Lodgings.... but, oh, the drive up can be a little daunting for inexperienced campers, especially with larger motorhomes or longer fifth-wheels... though, the last time we were there in our diesel pusher, the 'premium' overlook site was occupied by a 45' Prevost, towing a Cadillac Escalade... nice. They made it up... so can you!

I made in my 140 hp UltraVan with 2-sp Powerglide pulling a 400 lb trailer in 2012.

MG’s is not a fine place in my opinion. I made a reservation a year in advance for one of those mountain top premium sites and did not get what I was promised. Will never return, I don’t know how they get away with all the bait and switch they do.

^^True...that's another reason I stayed in Asheville. MG's plays on 95% of what they only have 5% of.

You are better off at Bear Creek at least you will not be lied too about the site you can expect.

We just spent a week at Bear Creek and found it to be entirely acceptable. Clean, well located and reasonably priced but not a resort caliber place. They sold us two day passes to Biltmore House for barely half of the gate price. We’ll stay there again.
