'a short walk'... no. Ft Desoto is 'within' biking or driving since it has beaches within the park, but not AT the campground. The campground IS on water, but it is the brackish interior waters of the area, good only for fishing. The beaches nearby, though, are beautiful, and worth the bike ride or quick drive to. Once you've paid your entrance fee for the park, you have use of any of them the whole time you are there, and several of the beach areas have their own bath houses, picnic areas, rentals, and food/clothing/swim wear convenience shops. Very nice.
There are several RV parks in the Clearwater area, Clearwater Travel RV Park, to name a good one, and is within a fairly quick drive to either Clearwater beach, where all the folks and traffic is, or you can make a quick drive over the Clearwater bridge to Sand Key park - $5 all day parking, beautiful wide and long beach, jetty, watch the boats come and go, fishing, and bath houses, beach food, and rentals.
