Raleigh, NC to Bar Harbor Maine

Any one have experience with the best way to get from Raleigh NC to Bar Harbor Maine? I know there are some tunnel restrictions around Baltimore and would like to get around NYC as painlessly as possible. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Around Baltimore you will have to take the Francis Scott Key Bridge. I-287 will take you West and North of NYC across the Tappan Zee Bridge. You can avoid the NYC traffic that way. Once across the Tappan Zee you can reconnect with I-95 and go around Boston on the way up. What ever you do don't take Saw Mill Parkway after crossing the Tappan Zee. That led to a police escort for me off of a road with low bridges. Not fun!

Thanks for the info. I’ve had previous experience around Baltimore but it has been years ago. Good to know about the NYC route. That’s the one keeping me awake at night.

Take 81 north to 78 east to 287. Stay off 95 as much as possible. Worst drivers on the planet!
