Recommendations for beach camping in CA

We are planning a trip to CA the week after new years 2020. Any recommendations for the best campgrounds on the beach? Any recommendations for campgrounds to avoid?

I agree.

Rvparkreviews will help you get feedback. Keep in mind some of the coastal parks are TIGHT.

You're traveling to the California coast in winter so finding space shouldn't be to difficult, however it's winter and the coast is likely to be cold and windy North of Santa Barbara plan accordingly. RV camping is difficult in LA and Orange counties not to many parks so plan ahead. We're going to be taking two months along the coast leaving next Sunday and we made our reservations last year. Have fun the coast is beautiful. Safe travels.

Definitely avoid Dockweiller RV Park in Vista Del Mar. It's beautiful location right on the beach, but it's right off the end of the runway for LAX. You can look forward to sleeping all night long with the roar of giant planes taking off every 15 minutes. In the morning fog they look like the Japanese monster Rodan zooming right over your head.

If you're deaf.... then kindly disregard this advice.

LOL, we've stayed at Dockweiler many times, yes noise from LAX is difficult but the beach is okay and access to the south bay area is excellent. Not many RV parks in the LA area.

San Diego is another great destination, several RV parks on the water from Oceanside south to Chula Vista. They can be a bit expensive on a daily rate but San Diego just rocks, lots to see and do.

If you happen to be an Elk, Oceanside and Chula Vista both have lodges with full hookups.

I have heard about Oceanside and I have stayed at Chula Vista. When full it is TIGHT. Slides almost touching slides. But the camp host is awesome!

Bit more space in Oceanside and they take reservations. Chula Vista doesn't take reservations except for groups. Probably not much competition in winter.

The Waterfront RV Park in Huntington Beach is quite nice and right across PCH from the beach.

In some ways it's better than the Sunset Vista RV park just north on PCH. While this one is right on the beach, it's known to have transients and homeless people walking through the campsites.

Another alternative would be Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington beach. It's a bit tight but not much competition in winter for space

. Hi this is right up my alley well not my personal alley. We live in Northern California specifically Monterey bay area small town APTOS, CA there are many RV Parks. Seascape state park is on the beach very little wind And absolutely beautiful, about a quarter-mile from my house. Golf weather year-round average temperature is 65. What time of the year ? You will need to be Diligent for a space the max time is seven days. And as far as Pismo Beach or many of the areas south California those RV parks are super windy overcrowded. I would go north in California if you can, super beautiful mountains trees.

And in all fairness MOREL Bay is a very nice area and good RV park its more central to Northern California. I think 25 foot or less is Acceptable for the park anything more no way

We like Half Moon Bay in NO CA (Francis Beach). Weather could be dicey in Jan however. Could be on the colder side and you never know about rain. Compared to back east the weather will probably be great however.

They only have Water hook up. No electric or sewer but they also have a dump station. They have pay showers - not great but it gets the job done if you need one outside of your rig.

They have some sites right off the sand / beach. You can also walk to downtown Half Moon Bay for shops and restaurants (about a 20 min walk on sidewalks). If you like to ride bikes there is a great bike trail that runs along the coast both ways for quite a few miles.

We try to throw this one in the mix every year. We are there in October this year,

If up north by the redwoods Golds Bluff beach was our favorite California campground.

Sprinter Van may be the size limit however.

depending on what you 'mean' by campgrounds, there are a LOT of beachside overnight RV parking up and down the coast, notably between SantaBarbara and Ventra... usually only $15-$20 per night, off-grid, of course.

Park with your awning toward the beach...and walk right out to the water!
