EZ-Pass
In past years I traveled with a trailer, using the EZ Pass for my vehicle. Now I have a Vegas. My question is, can I transfer that EZ Pass to the RV, or do I need to purchase one specifically for the motorhome?

You can just add the RV to your account with the tag number. One transponder will work with everything you own as long as you add them. If you don't, they will bill you with pictures of you, in whatever you are driving, picking your nose at 70MPH. If you pull a trailer (as you probably know) or a toad, it will automatically charge you the extra axles. It's all based on number of axles and tag numbers.

So when I pick out a trailer for the golfcart: I have to add it to the E-Z PASS that I have for the motorhome?
Or will it automatically count the axles, and charge accordingly?

It will count the axles. Register the main ride only. I made the mistake while towing our boat to The Keys once by adding one of our other transponders to the boat. It charged us double. they corrected it but lesson learned. If, for some reason you have 2 transponders, place the other in a Faraday Bag or it will pick it up also. We have several for business and personal and use them accordingly.

Glad to hear you are staying with the trailer concept...not the hitch mounted "nuclear option".

A lot of what Gritz said may be true, it depends on which state issued your EZPASS. What's true for one state may not be true for another. Some have portable systems where you just move the transponder to the vehicle you are using. Some will count the axles for your trailer or toad and you won't need a separate one for the toad. Some require a separate one for the toad. Some require a specific one for the MH and charge you based on GVWR. I understand the NC one is the simplest/easiest/cheapest one to get. Check with your state's EZPASS site to see what the specifics are for YOUR EZPASS.

The GURU has spoken and he is correct. I actually called EZPASS to find out as we will be traveling a lot "up east" later this year and will buy one. It appears motorhomes and anything else over 8000GVW requires it's own transponder and is charged at a higher rate. The "toad" or any other trailer will be automatically charged by axles. Rates vary from state to state also. The website has detailed data for how it works in each state. I assumed it worked like the Florida SunPass...NOT! I wish they would all get together and unify this program.

When I applied for an EZ-PASS in New York, I was issued 3 devices. One for my car, one for my RV, and one for when I was driving my RV and towing my car. Yeah - seems silly to me too.

If you think of the name as a mere marketing ploy: it makes perfect sense!

Time to give them a call.

Here in Tennessee, no tag needed for a trailer, unless it for commercial use, over 21 feet (not including tongue), or if it is a travel trailer, and we have no front tag!
You haul a 15' covered utility trailer tall enough to hide your tag! (Put a golf cart in it)...

No, it is valid in all EZPASS states on those toll roads and on some toll roads in non-EZPASS states such as the Central Florida Expressway toll roads in Florida but not the Sunpass toll roads (yet).

We have the NC QuickPass. It is accepted in EZPass, PeachPass (Georgia), and SunPass (Florida). I travel from Glassboro, NJ to Tampa, FL without stopping at a toll booth.

I just received the W Va Ez Pass. it allowes me to travel the WV Turnpike at no charge for the next 3 years. I can renew it for another 3 years for another $25.00, after that it's $25.00 a year. If I go out of state, I have to set up an account out of which funds are withdrawn each time I use an out of state toll. That's how the one I got works. If I want to use EZ Pas in the RV, I have to get another transponder for it.
