Spokane to Phoenix route things to see

Traveling from Spokane WA to Phoenix in June and trying to plan the route to take. Interested in not so much the easiest shortest but the most scenic/things to do route. I don't have a ton of time but should be able to get quite a bit in with 6 days. Any thoughts?

Congratulations on your trip to Phoenix. Several options travelling down the 395 but you will have to deal with possible snow and weather issues in the beautiful mountain areas. You may have to forego this option at this time of year and stick with the highways east of the Sierras.

Really? I'm not familiar with the route, but in June the snow is still bad there?

Made that trip a number of times. Stayed mostly on interstates but some side trips to consider:

really good boondocking spot south of Dillon, MT. One on the east side of I-15 and one on the west side a little further south.

Bryce Canyon is well worth the stop....at least one full day if not two.

Zion National Park is another. Again, at least one day if not two.

From there we go through Las Vegas, Kingman and on to Phoenix via hiway 93. Wickenburg is always a fun stop for the day as well.

Enjoy the journey!

If you want to add 4-5 hours to your trip you may want to consider heading to Portland and then down I-5 to explore Oregon and California. The freeways are good and there are lots of places to stay. Also plenty of options for excursions if you have time.

We just did our shakedown cruise to Canyonville, OR, and tried out the Seven Feathers RV Resort there, which is rated 10/10/10 at Good Sams. Liked it so much we stayed for 3 nights. Be sure to get there early and go to the casino and sign up. There is a coupon special they are running for Monday through Thursday stays and our cost was just $19/nt! They may not be running it in June but you'll still get a discount if you join the Players Club which is free.

I agree with axis earl...if possible, try coming south via US 395 - you won't regret it! The scenery is topnotch, and so varied all along the way.

We did most of this trip the opposite way last fall. We went from our home in southeastern AZ to Redding, CA. We came up 395 from just outside of Barstow CA. The drive was wonderful...including a few hours of pretty barren & hot desert around Ridgecrest. We specifially stayed in Ridgecrest, which is a few miles off US 395, so we could explore the desert.

There were scattered sections of road construction all along 395, but nothing that delayed us more than 15 minutes at most.

I'd suggest coming down I-5 to Redding, then head East on Rt. 44, then a short hop on Rt. 36 & on to US 395. This is a beautiful drive on well maintained 2 lane roads, with views of Mt. Lassen and other lovely places. US 395 will take you through Susanville, then Reno, Carson City, Gardnerville, Lake Topaz, Lee Vining & Mono Lake, Lone Pine, and then Kramer Junction, where you'll bump into Rt. 58 to Barstow. You can do a lot of exploring in the desert, but seeing as you're travelling in June that might not be the most fun to do.

I'd then suggest taking US 40 to AZ 95, come through Lake Havasu City, then Parker AZ, and on to Quartzsite & I-10, then on to Phoenix.

Suggested places to stay:
JGW RV Park, Redding CA - right on the Sacramento River!!
Silver City RV Resort, Carson City NV
Boulder Creek RV Park, Lone Pine

Suggested things to see along the way:
Red Rock Canyon (west of Ridgecrest)
Trona Pinnacles (southeast of Ridgecrest)
Alabama Hills (near Lone Pine)
Manzanar Historic area (Japanese internment camp), near Lone Pine

Hope you have a GREAT trip! Just a quick question...have you been to Phoenix in June? :-)

In June, there should be minimal to no issues with snow along US 395. There could possibly be iffy road conditions on any one of the many mountain passes that go west through and over the Sierra Nevadas, but not along 395 itself - unless there would be a freaky storm of some kind.

Time allowing, I would suggest the Pacific Coast Highway all the way down to Los Angeles, then Route 66 eastward to Flagstaff and then down to Phoenix. A beautiful trip, but time consuming.

Thanks. I've been than way many times from motorcycle to motorhome and while beautiful, I'm thinking inland.

Perhaps I should have provided a little more info here but first to answer your question.... I live in Phoenix and love it year round.
We've explored pretty much everything from here to Vegas and everything west of the 95 all the way thru central Oregon Washington to Spokane. I'm thinking a more easterly route possibly even going thru Yellowstone but would perhaps like to wait until I have more time for that.

Okay then...LOL. You know Phoenix in the summer - and you like it! My hat's off to you! I'm an AZ native who spent 40+ years in the SF Bay Area and 10 years ago moved back to AZ...but we're in a little more moderate area temp-wise.

Yellowstone is gorgeous. We spent 3 nights there a couple years ago and enjoyed every momemt. We only scratched the surface of things to see and do. We did not RV on that trip, however. I understand campground reservations in the park are challenging to get in the summer.

If you decide to travel via MT & WY, look into stopping at Devil's Tower if you can swing it. Also if you come through the Denver area, Pikes Peak is a must. We drove up in our own car, but you can take a cog railway up as well.

One thing I know is....there is never a lack of beautiful places to see across our country, no matter where you travel.

Enjoy planning your trip!

We are going up the Pacific Coast Highway in late April early May from San Francisco to Seattle. You said time consuming and we need to be in Seattle to catch a cruise ship to Alaska, do you thing using trip software gives you actual drive time? We want to take our time and see a lot but don't want to under estimate the drive. If this sounds confusing it probably is.

Having done that trip several times 6 days really isn't enough time to do everything that you want so I would pick the route that has the one or two things you just have to see. That's a 22 hr drive if you do it straight, so just stopping in Moab, Sedona or the Grand Canyon you could spend a day in each of those places. Remember as well in June once your in southern Utah it will be in the 100's all the way to Phx
