Toilet Water Disappearing

2017 Miramar 34.4. I believe our toilet is leaking. Sometimes when I go to use it, the top of the egg (the valve) is exposed above the water or very little water at the base of the bowl. I'm assuming the seal at the bottom of the toilet is leaking.

What is a way to validate that it is still installed properly or if it needs to be replaced? How do I know what toilet I have? It's a ceramic base.

Thank you!

The gasket on the ball valve wears out. I've already had to replace ours. Its fairly easy to do.

I have a 2016 Miramar and had the same problem. I found using a TP that is septic approved and allowing the pedal to snap closed solved my issue. It seems normal toilet paper would occasionally get stuck in the valve and shutting the valve quietly it wouldn't seat completely. I know it sounds weird but it worked.

Toilet Leaking

The other thing you can try is to get a tube of silicone grease, usually used for pool supply gaskets, comes in a tube. Put some on your finger (wear gloves) and rub it on the gasket.

Clean the groove that the ball seal closes into.(old denture brush, Q-tip) Then apply silicone grease. (quarter size container is lifetime supply)

If cleaning does not work it is possible that hard water deposits on seal and ball valve are causing the problem. Before replacing seal, with water supply off empty bowl, add full strength CLR - enough to cover black seal and let it sit - adding as needed to replace any leakage. Several hours should be enough. I do CLR every couple months and current seal is over two years old with fulltime use.

Good morning everyone. This is some great feedback. This coach is essentially a new and thought it might be a bit premature for this thing to wear out so soon. This morning, I was the first one up and the water level was normal. I'm thinking that perhaps there may be something inconsistent with how the foot pedal valve is closed might be an issue.

The CLR and pool silicone seal are some great tips!

Vaseline is petroleum based, over time WILL deteriorate the seal. Better to use the silicone grease mentioned or buy a tube of plumbers grease sold at most hardware stores.

As to snap or slow release of pedal - it totally depends on brand and model. Some say let valve snap closed and some say slowly release pedal. Manual for your brand and model best source of info.

If the grease doesn't work, then you can buy a replacement gasket. On some models, you will have to remove the toilet to replace the gasket. On others, it can be done in place.

If the rig is new, ask the selling dealer to fix this under warranty.

Toilet seal

For what it's worth I keep a jar of Vaseline petroleum jelly put around the seal when we leave to go camping been working fine

Russ, on two different rigs we have purchased over the years this issue has presented itself. One unit was new and one was 18 months old. Our toilet seals had basically just dried out a little from the dealer having the unit with no water turned on or sitting in the bowl.

Once I lubricated the seal a couple of times and made sure the seal was clean we were good to go and the bowls began holding water again. If you are replacing these seals every year or so then there is something going in that bowl that shouldn't be.

You shouldn't use Vaseline.

From the Thetford page
Quote:
Can I use Vaseline (petroleum-based product) to lubricate the seal?
No, it will cause the seal to further deteriorate. We suggest use of a toilet seal lubricant or drain valve lubricant to lubricate the seal.
