Noisy on demand water heater blower??

Although it seems to work fine, I have often wondered if the blower motor on the water heater should be noisy enough that I hear it kicking on and off every time hot water is needed. My heater is located beneath one of the dinette seats in my Compass. I realize that how loud something should or should not be is subjective, this motor sounds like it has a bad bearing and is whiny sounding. Having never heard a unit before I bought my MH and nothing to compare it to, does this sound normal or a concern?

My water heater has no “blower”. Doubt yours does either. More than likely you’re hearing the burner ignite and burn when operating on propane. Normally, I only use gas to initially heat the tank when we get to our site. Then turn gas off and operate on electric.

If you have a Tankless Water Heater, you do have a blower.

If it is a Tankless, you should open the access door outside and make sure there is b=no debris or anything else obstructing the fan and causing the noise.

It could also be bad motor bearings.

It is tankless and free of debris and insect nesting. So I guess my question is for those having tankless. How noisy is your unit and what does it sound similar to my description?

The blower will turn on every time you use hot water.I have a Super C that is about 36' long so my coach is bigger than yous and that will have an effect on sound.

My unit is located beneath the kitchen sink. I can hear it start up and run but I would not call the noise obnoxious or loud. It sounds like any similar sized blower motor I've heard.

I do not hear any rotational noise so if you hear that type of sound, your motor may have a bearing issue.

This is my second Girard Tankless. My first one had the blower motor fail within the first year. Thor sent me a new blower motor and I replaced it myself. My current coach is almost two years old and I've had no issues with the tankless.

They send you the entire assembly that contains the motor, fan, exhaust pipe and housing. You have to pull the unit to replace that assembly. I was able to remove the old motor from the housing assembly and then just swapped the motors.

Girard support was good when I called them. You could try calling them and explaining your noise or going outside and recording what it sounds like up close to see what they say.
