Ace schwintek slide design

Just spent 11 hours fixing my slide on my Ace 30.2(full wall slide). I had a rv repair shop fix the front rails because it had skipped a tooth or 2. He had it for almost 3 months. He said the back rails where fine and it did work. Went camping 1 time and when I got home I pushed the slide out and about 3/4 of the way out it popped and skipped a tooth. Rail was destroyed. Ordered new back rails and bearing block ( not sure why they call them bearing blocks because there is no bearings in it). Luckily my dad and brother are both machinest we ended up putting a brass bearing in the lower bearing block works great. [ATTACH]5234[/ATTACH

You can't have a hexagon shaft in a round hole with nothing to keep it in place. We turned down the shaft so it was round and it rides nice and snug in the bearing without any play. The top block is the new one I had the shop fix. I cycled the slide maybe 4 times and that is what it looks like already. He put a bandaid on the problem it was going to fail again soon. Lippert needs to do a recall on this design. The way they built it it is going to fail. If you have this slide design you should find someone with a mill and a lathe and fix it the right way. Also do this yourself it took a day to replace and repair both ends of the slide not the months it takes the rv shops.

I have to replace the bearing blocks, spur gears, and track on my slide. Where did you find information on how to remove the system to make the replacements? Look like I will have to drill out rivets to remove the brackets...is that what you had to do?

I don't know the year of his coach but, is this prior to the new 3Trax System?

It’s the same thing whether it’s a 3trax or not. Horrible design. Since fixing mine ourselves the right way I have had no problems what so ever. I posted before that I had a shop fix one side of the slide. When I came back from a couple of camping trips the other side of the same slide failed. Upon fixing it we noticed the side that was just fixed by a shop was already showing signs of failing.

It’s not a hard project. Took about 8 hours to fix both ends. I can try and write up something but it would probably be easier to answer questions.

Also when you call Lippert and order new rails
, ask for the black ones. Makes it easier to see if it’s chewing up the rails down the road.

Hi, Just wondering if you ever wrote anything up on this? We are having a hell of a time with the schwintec slide on our 2012 crossroads. Have already got over $2000 into it and it still isn't working properly. Lippert has sent us a new lower bearing block assembly, but none of the rv dealers or repair shops has time or the want to fix it for us so it looks like we will have to do it ourselves, but I haven't been able to find any videos or manuals anywhere on any procedures, just looking for a little guidance. We want to get rid of the beast, but can't until next year, and want to at least be able to use it a few times this summer. Any help you can offer would be of great help. As you can see from the pictures, it broke the shoe (second time - the other one is the one from the other side that the tech took out the last time when they upgraded the block), and it is definately scraping the track).

You have a picture of the bearing block? Just by looking at the lower block can help to figure out what is the problem.

We have the new one in the package but haven't attempted to take the rack out of the trailer yet. We are taking the camper to put it on a seasonal lot later this week to leave it for the next 2-3 months, so fingers crossed when we get there we can get the slide out and then we can work on fixing the slide while we have it open so we can bring it home repaired in October.

I'm having grand vision of an aftermarket opportunity.
Anyone who wouldn't buy the upgrade deserves the trouble they bring upon themselves.
This is harbor freight mill/lathe, two hours of education and a place to put it.
It looks like an easy $300 per sale.

If I weren't able to do it myself I'd buy it.
