Where are you? Is that the house battery! Are you plugged into shore power? Do you have surge protection!? Is There a storm or is it campground failure?

It's the relay switch box under the bed. It started throwing sparks so I ran outside and pulled the plug on my surge protector. It looked like the cable twist touched the exposed wire and started melting. Enverything still works in the RV at this point. I should be safe to just replace the cable twist right? Oh and by the way I'm in Fayetteville.

Replace wire nut or nuts be sure to tighten if need be use channelocks to get good connection. Then tape each wire nut.

Wow!! You said this is located under a bed. Which bed, the master bed? I suppose I should go look at mine. I'll also have to check, now that you mentioned it, to make sure my wife is using a surge protector when she plugs into shore power.

Looks like its your transfer switch. I think its ok to use a linemans pliers to twist the wire pairs together when you replace them. Wire nuts should be finger tight so as not to crack the plastic wire nuts, Be sure the twisted wires will fit into the wire nut with no bare wires exposed, and then tape with electrical tape.

One of the main reasons not to use wire nuts, loose connections are common and get hot. Hate Scotch loks for the same reason. I replaced ours on the last camper with ring lugs and terminal strips.

i'm assuming that you checked the wires for any additional exposure.

The transfer relay box is under the bed. I checked all the wires and made sure they were connected. This MH is not going to burn down on my watch... Not on my watch
I will add this to my PMCS on a monthly basis to make sure the wires don't come lose. I do recommend everyone to check their wires.nthis could have ended in me buying a bigger unit of this one would have burnt down. The DW didn't find my come to amusing.

Okay,
For those of us with the smaller Vegas/Axis...anyone know where is the transfer relay box located? THis does look like something to check on regularly.
Doc

Many thanks Dan for bringing that to our attention. I checked my transfer switch and the wire nuts were loose and wire ends were not stripped back far enough to get a good contact twist.
Yes Doc, we have a transfer switch under the passenger side bunk near the water tank. It is a black plastic enclosed box with removable cover. It is easier, but not easy, to access with the drawers between the bunks removed.

I had the same thing happen. When the wires loosen a little they create huge heat and energy and will melt. And we know quality control at Thor is non existent so it could have been a little loose anyway. Clean it, put new nut on it, tighten well, and tape it. Also check all the rest to be sure they are very tight.
Mine did it overnight when I was running a space heater. No problems since I fixed it.
